On top they released official modding tools for custom miniatures. People can import and share custom minis into the game and the community already uploaded countless mini mods that are available to anyone through the game for free and add to the variety.
Heroforge minis have to be bought as digital minis to be usable in Talespire and can not be altered after you buy them. There are subscription models for Heroforge that make them a lot cheaper than the 8 bucks you'd have to pay for a single purchase. Important to know here is, that Talespire does not make any money with this. They only added the possibility to get Heroforge minis into the game because a lot of people asked for it. This is not the main possibility and feature for custom minis.
So do you access the community minis in game or is there a nexus page or what's the best place to get more of those? Also would it be possible for me to, say, make my own assets in Blender and import them myself or do you have to use some sort of in-game tool to make stuff like in Spore?
All modded content is accessible in game through the mod browser they implemented. That goes for custom minis, Symbiotes (which are web based extentions people use to create for example character sheets or access third party services such as DnD Beyond in game) and it will also be the case for custom tiles and props as soon as they are implemented. Talespire uses mod.io for that and if I recall correctly they also thought about at some point being able to subscribe to the mods on the mod.io website as well. So far they are only accessible in game.
And yes, you can absolutely create your own models in Blender and import them into the game. :)
The only important thing is, that they can't be STLs and have to be in a unity compatible format.
