Hex grid
Does it support hex grid in the current state? If not, are the devs planning to support in the near future?

A: Not yet. It would be a big task so it's definitely a post release feature if we do it. I'm trying to design systems with this feature in mind though.

I'm curious about this too! Hex grids are great for combat, just not as nice for lining up buildings.

I think they could still use square grids for building, and use an hex grid just as a layer for movement and combat.

If you learn to use the ruler, is a grid even necessary?

Grids can make it easier to see close range things at a glance. Smaller burst templates, for instance are pretty simple. Some combat manuevers are much easier with grids. Personally, I like free movement, but I understand the ease of grids in a number of games.

Games where facing matter, then grids help a huge amount. Hex works particularly well giving front (3), side (2) and back (1) hexes. This can be done with square grids, but you have to deal with the issues of diagonal movement speed.

It is if the movement is restrict to a square based grid and we plan on playing a hex grid based game. I was planning on using TaleSpire to run my tabletop RPG with my friend online, and we use hex grids for combat. I'm ok using a ruler instead of a grid, but only if the pieces can be moved freely. Is it possible or they can only be moved to a tile in the square grid?

mini movement is free (if you're moving them with the mouse - if you move with arrows keys it snaps to the grid)

From the "gear" settings icon navigate to the mini icon and turn off creature snap to grid.

Works in toolset I haven't tried it in a player setting
