How many mini assets are there and what level of customization is there?

Currently there is no Customization, but they are working on a Creature Creator for the game along with a free (for everyone that owns TaleSpire) program called TaleWeaver that will allow you to upload your own models.

From Hero Forge Terms of Service and Conditions of Use:

2.1 Downloadable 3D Model Files
Sky Castle Studios offers or may offer for purchase downloadable 3D model files that may include Character Designs (“3D Models”). Except as expressly provided in these Terms, Sky Castle Studios retains all ownership, right, title, and interest in the 3D models. The 3D Models may be printed or otherwise used for personal, noncommercial use and may not be resold, redistributed, or made available to third parties. Physical items printed from the 3D Models may not be sold or otherwise used commercially for any purpose, including as part of a larger project.

HeroForge's Terms of Service prohibit the use of any models made through their website on TaleSpire.

Luckily, TaleSpire will have it's own program called TaleWeaver that will allow you to import models into the game, and they are also working on a creature crafting system for the game as well.

BouncyRock is talking with HF to try and get permissions for them to host the files.

The importer would work, but Hero Forge doesn't allow the use of its files in that manner.

Uh, as mods are usually not for profit you can legally use them in the game. Talespire just cannot make them a part of their game. Someone else not making money off their mod can use whatever. It is why DayZ had Mountain Dew in the mod and does not in the standalone.

Why does herosforge have that exact inclusion in their TOS against Talespire? Just curious at naming another company. As I have not seen that on other games before.

It's not an exclusion against TS in particular, it's HF saying you can't share your purchases with other people, ie; buying a bunch of models and then distributing them to your friends so they get them for free. Unfortunately, the wordage ("don't share with 3rd parties") is such that it technically includes any companies that host their games. This puts peer to peer games in the clear.

That is very incorrect. Fair use only covers criticism, news reporting, teaching, and research. Mods are not protected under fair use, so it doesn't matter if they are for profit or free. Uploading your HF module to a server and making it available to unlimited people is not a legally protected action. You can not distribute copyrighted material in a way that is not approved by the copyright holder.

Ah ok that makes more sense to me now. At first I took it as part of the TOS. Had never seen a TOS mention by name any 3rd party before, so it threw me.

Oh I got that part. It was just how was worded first time. The explaination looked like part of the TOS itself is all. I got it now :-)
