one of greatest Metroidvania Genre games I played; Reccommended

Although I would not necessarily recommend this to everyone, it would be unfair to give it a negative review. The artstyle is unique, the combat is mostly smooth and the overall feel is all right. Expect some weird controls (D pad for dash?) and unexplained core mecanics. I also wish there was more weapon and armor variation, more demanding boss fights and a more linear difficulty curve. Most of the boss fights were first or second try, the plague doctor was very difficult and the last two bosses (the last 3 are basically back to back to back) are cakewalks... Overall fine, but nothing particularly compelling.

Remember when pickup again:
- Each playthrough: 30 manuscripts (I missed 2, probably in professor's home), 6 Beaded Night Stones, 6 Braided Rope of Bitter Vines, 6 Cyan Frankincense
- Next playthrough: choose Silvia, save Hilda.

Very Good Metroidvania

Vigil isn't perfect. It's a little too easy, the 3D player doesn't mesh very well with the entirely 2D world and it looks a little janky. It isn't translated perfectly, and some of the writing is odd. But any issue I take with this game, I always end up overcoming. It's so charming, fun, creepy, the music is excellent, the characters are wonderful and silly, the story is a fun tale of saving your sister from eldritch horror, and all of the 2D art is absolutely stellar. It was a tragedy that this game was pulled down for as long as it was, and it's amazing to see it back up. I absolutely adore Vigil.

Menus controls... should not be affected by character controls just causes so many problems.

A really beautiful game with a great, dark atmosphere and super fun gameplay. The first game in a long time where i couldnt wait to play more and went out of my way to explore everything i could. I really think they nailed the atmosphere specifically, some real dark fantasy here. If you like dark fantasy, this game is for you, the atmosphere alone is worth it

at moments game lacks polish, some examples:

- quest ordering, guidance, hints are very confusing.
- sometimes i feel block or strong attack should register but it doesn't.
- damage-related numbers sometimes freeze / persist on screen.

but it has cool, original art style and climate. in general quite good and playable. definitely not a copycat, has it's own character and style.

Pretty good, but clunky at times.

I've played through this game twice, mainly because I forgot my first playthrough because the game isn't terribly memorable. It's a good, but flawed game. There are definitely some odd design choices, and a bit of jank or translation errors, but overall it's serviceable and enjoyable.

Ultimately, the game lacks seems to lack focus and polish at times. It's got some good ideas, nice art, and music, but at the same time it can fall flat; it's inconsistent. For example, you'll go to one area and there's upbeat and intense music and you feel a bit of a rush and then you'll go to another and it's just silence, no music or anything. Instead, there should be appropriate music for each area, and then bombastic music for key moments or set pieces.

The UI and quest menus could really use some work. Navigating the menu and equiping items is all a little cumbersome, and the quest notes are vague and incomplete to the point of being near useless. Most of the quests I completed simply because I'm a thorough completionist and explore everywhere, not because I knew what I should do next.

Better balancing of items, weapons, and gear would also help. I mainly stuck with gear I earned in the early game because it ultimately was the best gear for my playstyle. It seemed like you never really found better gear, just different gear. Great if you're a fashion-souls player, pretty disappointing if you watch stats.

But despite these minor gripes, I still think it's worth checking out, there's still a lot here to like, especially if you like games in this vein.
