Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR

Windows 11 24H2 and WMR
Does any one have any info on whether WMR will be adopted by valve or someone else after the 24H2 update. I am going to update so does that mean my headset is e-waste?

I think I gave a reply to one of your other posts, but the headset is E-waste, unfortunately, and the only thing that could save it are theoretical driver ports. I hope you can get a new headset for super cheap

or some absolute beast of a mad-lad creates this theoretical port of the WMR drivers and actively supports it across OS's

Oh, right

In theory, you could dual boot your OS and have Windows 10 as your Dual Boot or Windows 7 and run your VR system perfectly fine (Apparently)

DONT forget if you DONOT want Windows feature update 24H2 for what ever reason = https://windowsreport.com/disable-windows-11-update/
Do ALL 5...
Note
Preventing the automatic download of updates will not affect your ability to receive updates in the future. You can still manually download and install them on your own time. (Even if you do want them it can be a good idea to wait until they have been verified to not break stuff or reduce your performance)

The headset is not e-waste it can still be used with Steam on Linux / SteamOS. There are some hoops topp jump through and if that's too much then sell it on ebay to someone that wants it don't just trash it.

It can still be used just fine on Windows 11 23H2 and earlier, as it has only been removed from version 24H2.

And

Disabling the automated install of feature updates does not stop you from installing security updates ect. It only stops your Windows 11 from updating to 24H2 by it self.

Is there a easy way to roll back to version before 24H2 ?

With a large feature update like version 24H2, the roll back option is only available for 10 days after the upgrade, after that, the only way to go to version 23H2 would be to create a bootable Windows USB and use that to clean install version 23H2.

The Microsoft website, they now only provide the ISO and USB for version 24H2, they no longer provide a download for version 23H2.
You can find it else where from trust worthy sites and verify with SHA hash.

To revert back to Windows 11 23H2 from 24H2, you can use the Go Back option in Settings:
1. Open Settings by pressing Win + I
2. Navigate to System then Recovery
3. Click the Go Back button under Recovery options
4. Follow the on-screen instructions

If the Go Back option is grayed out, you might not be able to roll back because it's been more than 10 days since the upgrade. In this case, you can try these steps to manually roll back Windows updates:
1. Shut down the OS by holding down the power button for 10 seconds
2. Repeat steps 1 and 2 two more times
3. Windows will automatically launch its Recovery Environment
4. Click Troubleshoot
5. Click Advanced options
6. Click Uninstall updates
7. Click Uninstall latest feature update
8. Click Uninstall feature update
9. Wait for the process to finish

ALWAYS BACKUP ANY FILES THAT ARE IMPORTANT OR YOU WANT TO KEEP

The whole framework will be removed, so SteamVR won't work either with WMR headsets. You can use "Incontrol" (google it) to set your windows version to 23H2 indefinitely and still get security updates.

I hope there is a class action lawsuit against Microsoft. They either need to reimburse those who spent $ on this stuff only to have it bricked on purpose or they need to make a native Steam driver. One thing to be obsolete and not get updates, it is another to intentionally kill thousands of expensive devices.

Microsoft google really no competitors to them, cannot even remove google from your phone. 2 most intrusive companies on this planet. every thing should have a competitor, then we end up with w better product.
