Is the Samsung Odyssey worth getting?
I had the vive and loved it, but sold it. Idk if I'd consider the Rift because this is out with much better res, but it seems like it has more problems then it's worth with tracking, and joystick issues and what not, what do you guys think?

The visual quality on the headset is really nice, coming from someone who also sold a vive. I find the controller tracking to be a problem for some games... and the need to buy batteries constantly is hard to ignore. I read about some good rechargeable batteries though, so that could be a way to alleviate that concern.

If you play bow and arrow type games, you might be very disappointed with WMR headsets and their controller tracking. It's especially noticeable if you're needing to aim and release an arrow above you. For games that don't really need you to move your controllers too far out of field of vision (or above you, even) then it's a great headset. The visual bump is worth it, especially considering how expensive the vive pro is for the same visual quality. The built in microphone is a great thing with the Odyssey headset that other WMR headsets don't have.

Is there ever gonna be something WMR will add to make the tracking better, or is this the best it'll be?

My visual problem with Odyssey is that dark black areas and dark black shadows have a smear effect when moving head back and forth. (ViVE Pro doesn't have this problem) Otherwise in bright areas the increased pixels are great to have! The controller with the thumbsticks are a great addition! controller tracking can be annoying. I've learned to keep my controllers in view of camera. I refuse to pay $800 for a VIVE Pro headset upgrade. Even at $400 for Odyssey, it can be alot of money for just alittle better visual upgrade from VIVE considering the great tracking.

@Zo do you prefer it over a regular vive or Oculus? Especially when playing shooters such as Onward and as your main headset?

I have tried Oculus and Vive Pro, and i prefer my Odessey, as mentioned Bow and arrows are a bit of a pain, if you draw so far back so it losses tracking then try and turn around to fire it completly gets messed up. BUT the visual bump, the ease of use and the controls are great, and i dont play many bow games :P, also they use predictive movement for a couple of seconds when out of tracking using the gyro, wich i think they will improve, that makes it alot better for all other types of games.

Winkel, I endorse many points about Odyssey (great HMD tracking and image, but significant handicaps with the controllers tracking despite them having more input buttons and axes) and Vive (good overall).

I'd just like to add that: the decision is safely between those 2, Oculus should be discarded because it runs too hot (among other issues, but operating temperature is the deal breaker). Quite controlled and extensive tests measured it 5-10ºC hotter ambient inside near your face than the Vive. Up to 10ºC (17.7ºF) is a lot in the summer!
In my experience this gets uncomfortable quite fast and coupled with a porous face contact that can't be properly cleaned led to skin problems I didn't have with the other 2, even if I used the Oculus a lot less because I couldn't stand long sessions. I didn't measure Odyssey's temperatures, but it feels on the same comfort level as the Vive.

Only you can decide if it is worth 2X other WMR headsets, personally I don't think so.

There is a software out now that allows to use the Vive controllers and lighthouse with the Odyssey or any WMR Headset for that matter. Initial setup is a bit of a pain but once it works it seems to work great. There Youtube video out there from Sweviver with step by step instructions.
The smear effect isn't on all games. Some games avoid to use pure blacks to keep away from smear. The vive pro doesn't have this problem because they calibrated the screen to have washed out colors and greys instead of blacks. The Odyssey has better calibrated and vibrant colors, I'm sure some people will make a workaround for the smear problem. I have over 60 VR games and it happened to me only on 2 games.

As a user of both vive and odyssey, i really prefer the odyssey. The tracking really got improved with every windows update, the last one in particular. imo bows and arrows are not a problem (anymore) if you don't keep your arm out of sight for less than 10 seconds. Also shakey hands out of view can screw up the gyro so don't drink too much coffee beforehand. :D
There are the occasional glitches where the controllers jump when partly out of view but not more than standard vive tracking glitches when your arm is in front of the tracker... So plus the better screen this is a better choice. I did not test the vive pro, because it is plainly too expensive, but since it uses the same tracking as the normal vive i bet thats exactly the same... XD

After doing the velcro mod, adding a powered usb hub, and purchasing special high current draw rechargeables it has been great! My vive has been put back into its original box for now except for the breakout box that im using as a powered video extension. I can play all the games pretty much on this headset because it works like a vive in games its not supported for so far...

You need NiZn rechargeables for controllers.

I play "In Death" a lot with my Odyssey+ and I have no problems with bow and arrows.

Definately Odyssey+ it is worth. Best headset to buy at now.
Anti SDE filter is a gamechanger.

Oculus and Vive are not even close.
I played on Vive and Rift and it had a pixel in size of fist.
WMR Acer VR was definately better, however Odyssey+ is just best and is worth to pay twice in comprasition to other WMR.
Vive Pro is comparable to old Odyssey 1gen.
Few words about Pimax 5K/8K. You will have similar quality to Acer VR or any other WMR on it, you will only gain better FOV. Pixel size and SDE will be similar on 5K, 8K is 5K upscaled, so not better.

Odyssey+ is superior to all of above.
