Please make sure to send us feedback on this from the Windows Feedback Hub. To help us get the most from your feedback:
1. Put "SteamVR" in the title (assuming this only occurs when you're using SteamVR. That helps our team to find it.
2. Attach a SteamVR System Report to the feedback. You can create one by clicking the menu in the SteamVR window and clicking "Create System Report". Save the report and attach it as a file in Feedback Hub.

I am going to follow the steps + maybe reinstall SteamVR; however, in my case, I notice that the headset is funky with the Cliff House (pre house actually) as well.
The device makes a connection noise, but I have to plug and unplug either the USB or HDMI to finally get it to recogonize. Once it's setup it seems to work, but it requires a lot of playing.
Hardware: Dell Alienware 17 r1, i7-4900mq, 32GB ram, GTX780m.
Any help here would be great.
I'd recommend unplugging the headset from both USB and HDMI, and removing the controllers from your computer (they are stored as bluetooth devices). Then you have to launch the portal, go in to settings, and the last option is "uninstall". After uninstalling close the portal, plug everything back in, and launch the portal again to go through the setup.
If it still doesn't work after that I don't know what else to tell you :(
But on my desktop machine, SteamVR have me the 108 error. To resolve it, I manually installed
"Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR" from the Steam store, then manually launched that.

When starting SteamVR app I am notified with Headset Error 108, and sometimes, soon after, with another error, which says "Unexpected SteamVR error" which shuts SteamVR down.
Everything works perfectly when launching Windows Mixed Reality directly from Windows.
PC is pumped enough to remove all the errors connected to PC hardware performance issues, and nothing that I've tried so far helped.
check if "external_drivers" is null
if it is null, assign your MixedRealityVRDriver folder path to it.
like this: "external_drivers" : [ "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\MixedRealityVRDriver" ],
Sorry for the Necro, but had to thank you for this information. That was my issue and this helped. Thanks!
