90hz problem G2
I have begun with a very irritating problem.

Suddenly started to get the error message mid january "device can't start at 90hz". I changed the settings to "let windows decide". All worked fine at 60hz.

Contacted HP tech support. They couldn't figure out the problem, so they sent me a replacement headset. That one arrived this morning, and it does the same thing.

It runs fine at 60hz (albeit with a mild flicker). But I want more FPS. Can anyone help with ideas?

My system:
Win 10
HP Reverb G2
3090
10900k
64gb ram

I had the same problem with AMD gpu, I disconnected my second screen (hdmi) and now the G2 starts in 90hz. When the 2 screens are connected I only have 60hz in G2.
This has got to be relevant...

What are your monitor's specs? if possible, try setting 1080p @ 60Hz? (or 90Hz if possible)

Also, maybe port order matters... It does for me. I have the monitor plugged in to the left of the headset, so the monitor gets picked up as the first device, headset second. Try complete shutdown/reboot if changing these.

Already tried at 1080 60hz monitor. No change.

Can't change the order. Monitor is on HDMi. Headset is on something else (display port maybe?). Tried swapping the headset into a different port. No change.

How about if you unplug the monitor? Start with usb to headset disconnected, unplug monitor, plug usb back in.

So this was working at some point?

What's the model of your 3090 & motherboard?

MSI Z490 A-Pro.

Not sure About the model of graphics card. Bought the computer in mid November with G card included.

And yeah. Was working fine until mid January, and then started flickering black screen. Over the course of 24 hours I was getting no image at all in 90hz. Switched to 60hz, and worked fine.

For information here is the exact error message I had:

(google trad sorry..)
Sorry ... We were unable to start your device at a frequency of 90 Hz. Make sure your device cables are connected properly.

To allow Windows Mixed Reality to run at a lower frame rate, go to Settings> Mixed Reality> Headset Display> Frame Rate.

Error code: 13-14

Main monitor : 1080p 60Hz Hdmi cable
Second monitor (unplug) : 1440*900 vga cable with hdmi converter
Gpu : Rx580 8gb

When I connect my second monitor WMR starts automatically with the error message, I close WMR and when I unplug the monitor WMR automatically restarts with the G2 in 90 hz

hoping it can help you

@tomlocmaria: Thanks for the info...

@DAN-di-WARhol: Are you getting error messages from the WMR Portal? It sounds like the video card might be the problem. Plenty of issues reported in the nvidia forums with multiple monitors on the 30 series.

If you have Geforce Experience installed, it might have automatically updated your drivers to 491.09 some time after they were released on Jan 7th. 461.72 was released a few days ago, if you're not on those yet, they'd be worth trying.

If you haven't tried it, I'd still try this just as a test. Some people on the nvidia forums were saying one monitor worked fine, but adding any more would result in black screens.

@ Tom. Exactly the same as me.

@ Torzi: I've only got 1 monitor and one headset. I'm currently trying a number of drivers going backwards from the newest. Same on all of them, but as I get to late 2020 the "slug mode" problem has improved a little. Still testing.

Yep, unplug your monitor so there's only 1 device connected to the card (headset). Inserting the USB should then initialize the headset, and launch the portal... hopefully at 90Hz. Just plug the monitor back in when your done.

Tried that within windows. No dice.

When I plugged the monitor back in I got the old error message - failed to start at 90hz.

Do you mean booting with just the headset?
Torzi 2021년 2월 28일 오전 6시 46분
Naw, I think that would cause problems. I was just wondering if the single device would work... reports of it working in nvidia forums.

Are you on the latest version of windows? There's an optional patch available that might be workth trying as well. Saw this specifically mentioned, but might be for something else entirely:
  • Updates an issue that might cause video playback to flicker when rendering on certain low-latency capable monitors.
  • Updates an issue with screen rendering after opening games with certain hardware configurations.

Actually a roll back to WIndows 10 version 1909 fixes some G2 issues.

Resolved!

Replaced the link box and now I get 90hz.

Sorry for necro. It is just in case others are struggling.

I have the same problems - but with an amd card. What was your solution?
DAN-di-WARhol 2021년 5월 28일 오후 11시 37분
It was a faulty link box. Replaced it and all was fine... for a couple of months. It started going wrong again after that.

I've pre-ordered the Vive Pro 2. I'm done with HP.

Uff. That doesn’t fill me up with confidence for mine ….
