When headset goes to sleep mode the steamVR will be closed
In Unity, when steamVR close, the headset tracking will be loss even you wake the headset up that is we don't want.

So could it don't close the steamVR when the headset goes to sleep mode?

I would also ask (or beg if this helps) for a configuration option for the sleep mode timeout, or simply a possibility to disable sleep mode completely. It is not a good experience to have to shutdown the game for having a bathroom break just because it's going to be crashed by entering sleep mode. This is the most aggravating feature of my MR headset.

+1 for disabling sleep. I develop my Unity app for WMR, and every time I want to run my stuff I have to wake it up and wait. Please give me the option and stop wasting my time.

Hey Aruto,

This is a side effect of how Mixed Reality works with normal Windows Apps. When the headset goes to sleep, those apps are suspended and stopped. When you wake it back up, they are resumed. Steam game's don't support that, so for now they are closed altogether.

You see, it would be nice if everybody does what MS says and develops UWP which are sleep-able. But you should face the reality that, 90% of VR apps worth running are *not* UWP, and most of the VR apps on the MS store are crap. If WMR doesn't cooperate with Win32 programs, you're not getting them to hop onto UWP train, you're getting people to buy Vive Pro. Look, nobody used Windows RT, nobody uses Windows S, and nobody will use WMR that sleep crashes non-store apps ok?

I really like the WMR hardware. I think you guys here are doing very important work in making it compatible with a wide range of available software. I even wish that the MS store will take off. But you're a new entrant, please be nice to people in town.

I reduced most issues with sleep mode by putting black electrical tape over the sensor inside the headset, now when you lift it off your head you dont have to do this "control+f" garbage and it takes longer to shutdown and kill SteamVR when you put the head set down to go make a coffee or have a toilet break.

All they need to do is add a setting to disable this stupid sensor.

I got the same issue, also using Insider Build and SteamVR games stop after 30min, because head set goes to sleep. I mentioned this error before here (https://steamcommunity.com/app/719950/discussions/0/2906376154334046067/) as "sth went wrong - error b10120a0"

@MarleyMoo: Yeah, funny, but I'm going to make sure I won't need your suggestion for the intended use case, therefore I currently make do with starting the AC in the winter and put the HMD on top, the vibrations seem to be enough to prevent sleep mode. Still I don't think we should need to resort to these workarounds, I can't figure out how somebody could come up with the idea "let's put in a fixed sleep mode timer" and everybody else "yeah, great, they'll love it!".

Can you tell us in which build you intend to put the patch ? I'd like to restore trying other new features, but I'd like to avoid switching back and forth from insider to regular releases.
This bug is a bit too frequent for me to allow normal use.

But is it really the answer to prevent Auto-Sleep? or is it actually WMR /SteamVR from closing or potentially crashing applications? I have been working with a stand alone Unreal 4 Application and, I definitely think burn in for AmoLed is risky.. but there isnt a normal way to power the unit down seperately without unplugging it, in my case (O+)

Well it's not that risky for me, as my HMD uses LCD. But to be honest, personally I think it's a bad design decision to implement sleep mode in a way the application gets force closed if sleep mode kicks in. Either let me configure the timeout and/or disable it, or implement it in a way that only the panels are shutting down and the electronics stay online and let the application running. As it is the sleep mode implementation is nothing else than aggravating.

I started getting these hangs and crashes when starting SteamVR after Odyssey sleep.
Still need to do more extensive testing but seems like I was able to fix it by disabling Power Management for Odyssey in Devices.

UPDATE: Nope, still happening. That fix doesn't work. And this is started with 1903 for me.

Jesus, I can't believe this is the default behavior. Who thought this is a good idea? I just lost progress in a game because I put the headset down for like 10 minutes. Really, WMR folks seem totally mental sometimes. Why not hire someone who actually plays VR games?

(So far I used my Oculus Quest, which obviously doesn't exhibit this behavior; it doesn't just randomly close your running apps. I got an Odyssey+ too a few days ago.)

Yes, that's what happens every time for everyone since years whenever a game is paused for a few minutes - It crashes and you lose your progress (@MS WTF!?)
...except for those very few people who found the solution in this thread.
