Animal Survival games that aren't dinosaurs only
While there's now quite a few games devoted to only playable dinosaur (BOB, Saurian, The Isle, Dinosaurs: Prehistoric Survivors)

But I like to play as other things as well, especially large mammals or birds. But there doesn't seem really be much out there.

(Note when I say "dinosaurs," I don't mean all prehistoric animals, especially since many prehistoric animals don't get much love compared to dinosaurs (Seriously, what ever happened to dimetrodons in paleo media?) But I do include pterosaurs/marine reptiles as "dinosaurs" because there seems to be an unspoken rule in media that anything that's "dinosaur only" also allows them.* I also don't mean birds for similar reason)
----

So far the only games I'm aware of are...

- Wolf Quest

- Feed and Grow: Fish (Although it also has marine reptiles (modern and extinct), cetaceans, marine invertebrates, and penguins)

- Shelter 2 (Shelter 1 is also more of a linear story while Meadow isn't really survival and lacks combat).

- Tokyo Jungle, but that feels more arcade-ish than survival. (I know it has playable dinosaurs, but most of the games animals are mammals so it's not dinosaurs only).

- Rainworld (while slugcat can use spears, it's otherwise a prey animal that doesn't talk, eats raw meat and hibernates).

- Age Of Animals, I don't know much about it but it looks promising.

- https://steamcommunity.com/app/376210/discussions/14/1642039363003246181/ An unnamed project someone brought up

- Pampas, Little info is available other than it's about pleistocene south america. There seems to be a focus on Smilodon.

ludicrouscunningfox's has some roblox mods and I heard Drunk On Nectar may add playables besides insects (although the insect gameplay isn't bad at all, I have a hard time really getting into it)

- Away (Seems really linear but shows promise)

edit: * That's not a jab at BOB by the way, this is a reoccuring thing throughout paleomedia. For example, this is also a thing in Jurassic World and The Isle.

There's the Meadow / Shelter series, available on Steam. I've never played any of this series myself but I've heard positive things about regarding it.

Cereal Soup is also on Steam now. I played a bit of it before it went on Steam, its an animal based MMO with a lot of good customization options.

There's also the Impressive Title servers / Feral Heart. Not sure if you've heard of these, but Impressive Title was a lion based game MMO back in the day that was free to download. After it shut down in 2010, it turned into Feral Heart, an updated version of Impressive Title with both canine/feline models. In 2011 the source code for Impressive Title was released to the public, allowing people to make their own servers. If you go this route, I'm not sure which I.T servers are active anymore but as far as I know they're still free.

These are all multiplayer games that are based upon playable animal characters. There are many, many more animal games that are single-player such as Niche. It's a genetic-based survival game. Not sure if this post was channeled specifically towards multi-player games or not.

The problem with those games (Cereal Sous, Feral Heart, etc.) is that they're fantasy MMORPG with crazy hairstyles, blue lions and all that.

To be honest it would be nice to have a game similar to TI/Saurian/BoB but based around modern animals, like Serengeti mammals.

Thank you, I'm suprised I forgot about Shelter, and single player is fine (in fact I personally prefer it).

However I sort of meant survival game as an individual animal (I should have specified that in my post, I apologize).

Niche seems more like a strategy game about keeping a population of animals alive. Meadow isn't survival, there's not even combat. It's mostly just talking/exploring/roleplaying.

I don't know much about Cereal Soup or IT/Feral Heart, but I thought they were like Meadow but with more fantasy aspects?

I would love a game like that.

The closest thing I know of is the upcoming Wolf Quest 3, which sounds like it'll be to wolves what Saurian intends to be to dinosaurs.

I don't mind fantasy and sci aspects in animal games (I loved the monster concepts for The Isle for example. Also, Rainworld, one of my favorite games, is built around fictional world with scifi and supernatural elements). But that the way it's done in Cereal and Feral Heart would, for me anyways, be distracting and take away from immersion. Although I know a lot of people, especially animal roleplayers, like that sort of thing.

Ah, in that case you guys would probably like Age of Animals. It's currently in development but it looks promising. Survival game. Lots of different African animals will be playable.

I'll link the discord here, but keep in mind it's a Portuguese discord.

There's a bunch of other animal games I'm missing and can't think of names RN. I'm currently at work so when I have time I may look for them and post those here as well.

Not sure if this counts but there's a couple of dragon ones too like Day of Dragons (In development but in EA) and Draconia (Draconia is still in development though but said to come out this year)

There's also Animalia but it's still in early development but playable. I'd probably give it some time before actually trying it out

U mentioned "No prehistoric animals" but theres a game on roblox called Ceozoic survival that it actually impressive and very nice to play, not like Wild savannah tho, expecially for the beta they're working on right now.
