Beasts of Bermuda

Advice for a solo player?
I'm fairly new to the game, have about 40 hours and have been loving it so far! I play on official 2, mostly solo. Looking for any tips and advice to help a solo player! What dinos are good for someone who plays solo, combat advice, survival tips, etc. Thanks!

The smaller you are, the better for solo. Ory, Velo, and Ptera are great for it. Others like Tropeo or Megalo are much better grouping with randoms for survival however.

Dinosaurs with easy diets, like herbivores or piscivores, tend to be best. Although some carnivores can get away with scavenging for a long time, most will be required to hunt eventually, and that is often difficult to do solo.

You also generally want to be fast, since you'll often be outnumbered or outgunned by anything that wants you dead. Something slow and powerful, like apatosaurus or saichania, may be doable if you're able to do your early growth in an isolated area of the map, away from other players; but you'll need to get lucky with your spawn point for that.

Biggest advice: don't go solo. BoB is not a solo game. It's advertised on Discords servers of this game to make friends and team up with others or you won't have a good time. Growing larger means everyone on the server will be targeting you, especially if you play on officials, as they have clans that scout the maps and kill everyone they deem a threat on sight, and you'll give the most meat to carnivores if you die. You'll also most likely die going up against a group.

Grouping up with other people also gives you huge buffs to your comfort and consequently, health and growth rate. It also means you can potentially mate with them if they're the same species and the opposite gender, which will give you a HUGE growth buff if someone manages to take your egg.

But if you're still insistent on playing solo, the only recommendation I can give you is to avoid hotspots (large bodies of water, snowy) and always be on the move. Unlike other dino games, you give scent and leave a trail other players can follow. Choosing colors that blend your creature to your surroundings, laying down and hiding under large grass only does so much. Your creature will become highlighted if another creature sniffs relatively close to you, so afk growing is a no go.

Only good dino that seems to do good as solo is Velo. They're fast enough to run from anything if you go down the speed route, and if you're good enough at buttriding and have the patience, it can 1v1 a lot of big dinos once you start filling the combat tree. I don't recommend any herbivores as they do infinitely better in a group. Birds and aquatics are kind of doable, but you're most likely to get ganged up on and cannibalized by bigger creatures of your own species if you go as them solo.

As for combat tips, you should obviously avoid creatures that have more growth than yours. As a carni, you should prioritize scavenging from spawn meat until you're 1.2+. Choose your battles carefully. Being solo means you won't be able to rely on anyone if a pack of 8 megalos jumps on you or a mosa starts dragging you underwater.

There's literally nothing to do solo.

I've personally been having a lot of fun playing solo, but it can be frustrating when you get killed by a group and you can't do anything about it. The game isn't really made to be played solo. Playing a solo spawn dinosaur vs a nested dinosaur with 100 inherits, you're going to lose that pretty much every time which is really frustrating but dying and starting over again is just a part of the game. If you adjust your expectations and go try to have fun and play the game- go explore the map, try new builds, etc- instead of AFK growing for hours just to be killed, it can be enjoyable. I do wish that more dinosaurs were solo viable but there's still decent options for a solo player, just can't really do a large carnivore because hunting solo is impossible sadly. I've found the best dinosaurs for solo are smaller, and more importantly, fast. I wish the game was more solo friendly, sadly most dinosaur games aren't, and it can be frustrating because you don't have a chance in many situations, but there's still a lot of fun to be had playing solo on an official.

Sai is objectively the best for solo on land, it can take anything 1V1 even acros. However if you find yourself outnumbered by acros your going to die unless your in a cave.

Id say if you want to solo in the water just go Mosa.

If you want to know what to solo Ichy over Lurd, i would pick Lurd.

*sigh* no, not "tox." As a 1,600 hour half-veteran of this game, this is genuine and pretty good advice. Solo is harder and not as fun as having a partner or a group to chat with and help defend each other as well as nesting and getting comfort buffs and scouting advantages. You can do it, but like this person says, many dinos are awful at solo; smaller, more discreet, more agile creatures tend to be the way to go since you're better at avoiding predators and have a lower profile to fly under (or over) the radar. If you're big and solo, you will die to carni packs, no doubt about it.

If you can get a good apa egg whit good inherits it's also a good solo dinosaur able to take on a lot if you know how
