If you want more capability with your creature, fun but unrealistic abilities, more reason to move around, and more interactability between creatures and the environment, go for Beasts of Bermuda. The graphics, models, and animations are subjectively not as good, but improvement is ongoing and all old models are in the process of being redone.
It comes down to if you would rather have a game that looks good, or a game that is fun.
From my perspective The Isle has a lot more potential BUT and it's a big but, the development cycle for The Isle has been messy to say the least, I don't know how much in the know you are with The Isle but they recently "relaunched" with the Recode also know as Evrima, a completely new code for the game splitting the game into two different sub games, Legacy and Evrima.
Legacy: This is the most complete version of The Isle, it has the most functioning mechanics and dinos but due to code related issues the game hit a bottleneck so severe that the devs for all intents and purposes made a new game. Legacy if fine on it's own, it's still a early access game with related issues but it's no longer being developed. Compared to BoB it is better graphics and more realistic game play, ei no 10 ton sea creatures jumping 300m and birbs knocking 100 ton longnecks over cliffs. BoB has more in dept mechanics, more incentment to play with your dino after getting to adult and prolly the biggest sell, they have flyers and aquatics, thou this has it's own downsides which I will get into later.
Evrima: Oh this was a effing slap in the face. When Evrima launched, atleast 6 month's delayed it was basicly The Isle alpha stage v.2.0 only 2 playable dinos (3 atm...) and barely playable due to bugs/server issues/lack of content. The devs then put massive focus on trying to get super Ai in the game that would replace some player roles in some way, this has since been pushed back/abandoned in favor of getting more playables and mechanics into the game, so yay for that.
Compared to BoB Evrima looks 10 years younger with a lot less janky things, comparing the 2 on looks s almost insulting, BUT, there's that big but, Evrima is currently very incomplete and I would not recommend getting The Isle just for Evrima at it's current sate, the next few patches for the game will be crucial for it's survival.
BoB: I'am fairly new to BoB, had the game for a bit more than 1 month, disregarding the graphics and jankyness BoB has, imo, some severe issues with it's core mechanics. The fact that growth is for all intents and purposes uncapped means that every populated server have a few massive dinos that utterly dominate one or more aspect of the game, health dmg and movement speed are tied to your growth, meaning that the 2.0 growth Rex will be faster, stronger and deadlier than your 1.0 Rex, they will kill you 100% of the time and you can't really run from them either sinze they will be faster and have more stamina.
This issue is even worse for aquatics, the current map is meh for aquatics in general and the Rex issues I have already talked about is even worse here, in general there is up to about 10 players on every server that have massive aquatics and everyone else is just food for them, getting an aquatic to even 1.0 or 1.2 will take many many tries and you will still not stand a chance vs those players and unless you have 18h a day to spend on BoB and/or a clan you will never be able to catch up to them. Speaking of clans, they make this issue even worse, on some servers (Isla Nublar if my memory is correct) there are clans that utterly dominates one aspect of the game, for example flyers, the will kill anyone that's not a part of their clan attempting to play in their chosen field.
These issues are tied to core mechanics of the game, ei "unlimited" growth and stat scaling, and I don't really see a good way to solve this. For me BoB is a distraction while I wait for Evrima to live up to it's potential, and believe me there is a lot of potential in Evrima if the devs could just stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it up all the time and get some of that potential live into the game. For more info regarding this there's a roadmap up: https://trello.com/b/G5tsb4XI/public-roadmap
Major content updates are usually several months apart, with minor balance changes and bug fixes in between. You can check the announcements page for the game on steam to read about recent updates.
it's almost like some parts of this game the devs let their children decide what to do..
If we can never get past thinking about bad things, how can good things ever happen?
Evrima may never be finished. Maybe it will get finished. All I know is that I'm gonna try to stay with it every step of the way.
Beasts of Bermuda after 1 and a half year has made enormous steps in the rigth direction and is really funny to play, with a lot of options.
I really doubt that the Isle is a scam, considering that if they wanted to 'run with the money', they would've done so already, as they don't seem to be making that much more by working on Evrima.
Also, on a side note, when asked about how BoB is superior to the Isle, many people will talk about BoB's array of mechanics and increased customization (Unlimited Growth, Marine Reptiles, Skin Customization) without mentioning how these things can take away from gameplay just as much as they contribute (kajiu rexs, water gameplay isn't very developed, neon dinosaurs).
The ladt time I was thete though you just survived as your dino of choice, 2 to pick from though I believe thete is now 3. There wasn't any nesting.
Beasts of Bermuda had fliers and aquatics as well as the land dinos. There are two fliers currently one that was just released and is still being balanced. There are 3 aquatics currently.
You can customize your creature via the talent tree and each spawned creature can get up to four inherits which is a bonus to these talents. If you are nested rather than spawned you can get even MORE inherits. Nested creatures can also get mix skins based on the skins of their parents. So there is even more to nesting than Legacy version of The Isle. The talent trees has talents grouped by combat/power, speed and survival.
A spawned creature can totally customize the looks if their creature by picking one of the available skins and adjusting the sliders to change the colors/look of the chosen skin. You can even, if want make bright neon colors if you want. These created skins can be saved too to the se multiple times. Nested creatures you can' only adjust the opacity if the inherited skin but even that can sometimes really change the look of your creature.
The developers also LISTEN to their player base. One example in regards to the above mentioned neon dinos if which many did not like. Now there is a filter system in place so if you don't want to see nein dinos running around you can turn on this filter which will display OTHER people's dinos as much mote natural looking. There are two options to this filter one that is more severe. Currently no option to view your OWN creature via the filter but as said you can control the appearance of your own creature.
Weather plays a BIG role in the game as well as comfort. Most creatures it us recommended especially as a new player to put your first 3 talent points into weather resistance so you don't get struck by lightning and die. Very severe storms can make your creature lose comfort and if you lose enough comfort your health will start to go down. Taking points n stress resistance helps as well as being bear friendly (grouped creatures) having shelter or eating comfort crystals/flowers/sponges)
The updates are pretty frequent and they are also in the process of redoing their creature midels. A new map is also due out soonish. The new revisions to the ocean is FANTASTIC and it even has waves!!
Since I've started, they've revised two models, made many quality of life changes and released two new creatures. One of which, the oryctodrmeous, has a VERY unique ability/playstyle as you can create ELABORATE burrows to escape from predators in.
I could go on but I may be overwhelming you at this point. So will leave you with a video I took of an ory burrow I dug out myself just to show you one of their unique features:

BoB has good ammount of activities and interactions with game world, surviving weather effects ,floods, very interesting abilities etc. Also, combat is much more interesting and strategic.
I used to be The Isle player and I switched to BoB - no regrets so far. The Isle can die in silent death as far I'm concerned.
