Rebellious Spirits?
So is there anything increases/decreases the odds of a spirit being rebellious? Or is it a fixed chance? Like if you already have a bunch of spirits around active, the odds of rebellion increase or something like that.

You can guaranteed safely dismiss a rebellious spirit with reason or you can try to re-assert control with passion? What are odds that controlling with passion will succeed/fail? I imagine if it fails it will attack the assistant?

It may vary by summon, but all the ones I looked at have a 30% fixed chance to rebel.

Reason has a 100% chance of shutting it down.

Passion has a 70% chance of regaining control.

It seems like doing nothing at all has a 100% chance of a breach, though I thought I remembered otherwise.

What the Summon does in the event of a breach depends on their Aspects: namely, the Devourer and Deceiver Aspects, and how high they are. Deceivers attack your Reason. Devourers may attack a random Mortal (not necessarily a Follower) or your Health.

70% chance of regaining control? Really? Because I have used Passion on rebellious spirits, and I have NEVER managed to control one. Not once. Am I missing something?

It's 70% when using Passion, yes. But that's not actually great odds, so it's not unlikely that you've failed a lot. I almost always dismiss and then try again instead of risking it.

The only situation where I found re-asserting control a sane choice is on a no-Influence no-willing-Followers run where there is a bottleneck in delving for key resources with only a finite number of summon attempts before softlocking. The full rules are as follows:

Alchemist challenge
  • No free living followers, except to found a cult and pacify Poppy
    • Prisoners and Lunatics are fine
  • No learning languages from books
  • Vaults must be delved with Aspects that counter all obstacles
  • Summoning Rituals can't use Influences,
and the sacrificed thing must have the greatest (or tied)
total Intensity of all the things
(for example, Lunatics have total Intensity of 9)
  • Summonings must only use Knock Lore,
except Risen that can use Winter Lore,
    and Teresa, with Histories Lore

Yeah, I think from now on I'm just gonna use Reason to dismiss. Apparently trying to regain control just isn't worth it. Thanks, everyone.
