How dangerous is the Dry Soul Curse?
I just failed to supply heart influence to fight it off and got a single dread card. Will it ♥♥♥♥ me over later?

Curses attempt eat one stat card (health, passion, reason) permanently when they trigger- you do get a final chance to fight it off, if you have a strong influence on you. Don't know what influence it would be for that one. Even if you don't, it has a small chance to fail. I think dry soul eats passion.

It's worth noting that the curse that takes Health leaves Decrepitude, which can be fixed.

And there's another Curse that can eat a mortal from the board.

But none of the curses are game-ending unless you fail a lot of the same kind.

I think it ate one of your Passion before spitting out Dread, which is a big deal. If it didn't, it's either bugged or has been nerfed without me noticing.

It gave me dread but I still have 5 passion.

I have 1 decrepitude, but I think I might have forgotten about an affliction while trying to power up my secret histories lore.

I think you get a second chance to beat the curse if you have a high level heart influence on the board when it activates.

Do note that a curse doesn't take effect immediately after failing the obstacle. A verb will pop up with a timer. Each time the timer completes, there will be a chance for either the curse to progress, or the timer to reset. If it progresses, you'll be given one last chance to fight it off with an Influence. If you don't, then it takes effect.

Do you see the Curse verb still?

Also Dry Soul takes Reason, not Passion. If there is no Verb and you didn't lose any Reason, you may want to bug report with the support email.

I think I once evaded a curse by not having anything on the board of could take. Like I had all my passion tied up in painting. Is that a bug? Should it have reset the counter when it found nothing?

I make heavy use of painting with notoriety to evade investigation so i suspect it is an intentional mechanic.
Red Earth Dec 17, 2018 @ 2:38pm
Sure, but the hunter will be back, and you're delaying the decay of your notoriety so while useful it doesn't solve the problem. Ducking the curse this way seems like a small exploit since it's gone afterwards.
Aristedes Dec 17, 2018 @ 3:55pm
I'm not delaying the decay, I let it sit while he's busy with my Mystique and immediately paint once he's about to tick over.

Yeah, but it takes about a minute to paint and they aren't decaying while you're painting. So that's another minute they'll stay on the board.

You're hoping to beat the clock. Once it ticks from the perils of renown to considering the evidence it won't take any more cards. Also, it can only take one card at a time so if you're lucky about when the cards pop out the can decay for almost a minute.

I know how it works bro, I do it a lot. But I end up in an endless cycle of painting with notoriety and generating more mystique from painting so the investigation never ends. After 10 minutes of that I'd rather just deal with the evidence.

You have many more options available to you if you can keep the Investigator on the board rather than locked in the Season verb for eternity. I've always found painting overrated and only ever use it if I have to.

But we seem to be getting very off-topic.

Really? To me painting is my go-to way for generating funds and contentment, as well as preserving certain decaying cards that i think i might need.

Besides that, the only work i have available is Glover and Glover and menial physical labour.
