Have you tried reading card/verb flavor texts?
It requires a bit of imagination, but for me the writing is the best part.
It grabbed me immediately. It's just not a game for everyone. You need to like reading and have a little bit of imagination
Thankfully this forum exists so now others can know the extent of the specialness of those gifted discriminating few. Let us give thanks.
AND WHAT IS WITHIN, WITHOUT, WHAT IS WITHOUT, WITHIN
Prance, thank you very much! I wouldn't say 'boundless', but that's very kind of you. Thank you for stopping by and brightening our day, and I hope you have a wonderful week.
The concept that it's a Cult, but ... it's really a card game also grabs me. The concept that it's this intellectual house of cards, spun into this vast, nebulous idea of a cult pursuing forbidden, dangerous knowledge while at the same time acknowledging that you're really sitting there alone just playing a card game, and you're only imagining it all is fun too (if tragically poignant).
If your imagination doesn't go galloping off into The Haunted Night Forest at the merest hint of provocation, then this might not be the game for you.
(And frankly, it's also a fascinating clinic on how to build a innovative, highly involved, fun game, with and incredibly minimal, stripped down, cost effective interface).
Compared to games like Sunless Sea, this game is a lot faster. But dying in Sunless Sea feels more fair, because you usually did something dumb or risky. In Cultist Simulator you can do everything right and play very carefully, but will probably still die due to bad luck sooner or later.
