Is this just a card game with weird descriptions?
I have about a few minutes into this game and it seems that you just drag cards into/collect cards from those box thingy. Nothing seems interesting so far.

Yes, the gameplay is just that.
Have you tried reading card/verb flavor texts?
It requires a bit of imagination, but for me the writing is the best part.

The card / verb flavor texts are so much word salad. There's no narrative to them, it's more like someone created them using Mad Libs. "The [adjective] [noun] leads to [noun]," with random words inserted into each slot.

Then it's probably not the game for you.

Its not the sort of game that grabs you the first second you start playing it. You may have to experiment a bit and die a few times before you start having fun. I'd advise to keep going though, I kept with it and can't stop playing.

It grabbed me immediately. It's just not a game for everyone. You need to like reading and have a little bit of imagination

It also helps to think of yourself as a dazzling unique flower with boundless intelligence, creativity, and sophistication. It's really a game for those special few - you know who you are (clearly).

Thankfully this forum exists so now others can know the extent of the specialness of those gifted discriminating few. Let us give thanks.

There is nothing special in gameplay, unless you're kinda person who loves reading description of every item like me

AND WHAT IS WITHIN, WITHOUT, WHAT IS WITHOUT, WITHIN

I mean, the art style is pretty good too, if you're the kind that just likes to look at pictures.

I understand this game as a narrative-card-based one. Kinda like a step further from Fallen London, and a bit more active than that one. Fallen London was nice, but a bit too slow for my taste. This one... this grabbed me by the neck. And took the through the Door.

Yep you will find the game boring.

It's a narrative game- it tells a story, and it's about discovery. Exploring a new world, learning. If the narrative element/setting isn't particularly appealing for you, then this probably won't be your kind of game tbh.

Prance, thank you very much! I wouldn't say 'boundless', but that's very kind of you. Thank you for stopping by and brightening our day, and I hope you have a wonderful week.

The art grabbed me right away. I really can't say enough about it. It's minimal, evocative, clean, on point. It captures every aspect of the different cultural milieus that were into mysticism looked like, from the Victorian through the 60's.

The concept that it's a Cult, but ... it's really a card game also grabs me. The concept that it's this intellectual house of cards, spun into this vast, nebulous idea of a cult pursuing forbidden, dangerous knowledge while at the same time acknowledging that you're really sitting there alone just playing a card game, and you're only imagining it all is fun too (if tragically poignant).

If your imagination doesn't go galloping off into The Haunted Night Forest at the merest hint of provocation, then this might not be the game for you.

(And frankly, it's also a fascinating clinic on how to build a innovative, highly involved, fun game, with and incredibly minimal, stripped down, cost effective interface).

It's complicated solitaire with added flavor, yes, and then you randomly lose because of something you had no control over. But it's done with enough style and polish that it's still entertaining for a week or so.

Compared to games like Sunless Sea, this game is a lot faster. But dying in Sunless Sea feels more fair, because you usually did something dumb or risky. In Cultist Simulator you can do everything right and play very carefully, but will probably still die due to bad luck sooner or later.

OH so much truth! Those times when you randomly get 3 killer cards in a row and everything is lost forever...
