Lore manipulation - Horribly grindy and badly bugged
First of all I think Lore manipulation is the worst part of the game. It relies way too much on the favor of the RNG gods, it's clumsy, long and no fun at all. It's also something you have to do over and over again.
It's just plain bad game design IMO but since I love the game I put up with it.

But it's also bugged as hell and that's a bigger problem.

My current game is going perfectly. I have a cult with 2 disciples from each aspect, 2 Cyparians from my own aspect, a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of rituals, trinkets items.
What I do not have is the answer to the stag riddle door, because it would be Heart and I only have a lvl. 4 Heart lore. Yeah, RNGod strikes again.

Tried to turn a winter lore into a heart one. The process succeeded (as in I had everything and it went through) but I got back the 1 heart and 1 winter lore while the message said I have "successfully converted edge to winter"

Previously I also experienced:
- Moth lore disappearing when I attempted to convert it to Lantern (process was unsuccessful)
- Secret Histories lore disappearing when combined with itself (process was successful, but I got back 1 lore that was the same level as the one I started with)

Maybe they could have a lore manipulation skill you can upgrade so it gets easy later in the game. Or just rebalance the game around making that part of it easy from the start.

Honestly, instead of making it a whole long thing, make it so that it shows you the requirements up front. Like, you put in two lantern lore, and it gives you one slot for erudition and two for reason, or whatever. And then it just takes up as much time as a normal study action.

Or make it a choose your own adventure thing. So, like, you put in two lantern, and you get a 'Contemplating the Lantern' card, which you dream on to enter the manse and try to learn a lesson about the lantern aspect.

Basically, if it's going to be long, make it interesting. If it's not going to be interesting, don't make it long.

Not so much a disagreement with your issue as advice on how to deal with it for now: it's fairly rare that you really need to subvert or upgrade lore, as you can always find more advanced lore in books. There are times and places where it's necessary of course, but it's not something that you need to do every game.

I have to disagree; upgrading lore is, in my experience, a fairly common thing, and occasionally a really convoluted process (I've had to chain three upgrades before in order to turn two winter, a knife, and a heart into a stronger heart aspect). You can ignore it and rely on books, but it seems clear that it was meant to be a major mechanic.

This is another game by the sunless sea people and their various fallen london browser games. they make things stupidly hard, but if you notice how they direct you to your saves location right up front youll see that theyed rather you edit your own file than balance the game right.

This is not true though.

If you want to get high level lore you need to either combine lore or get high level books.
The latter requires high level expeditions which in turn require high level Secret Histories lore.
And although rewards from expeditions are random, once you run out of them and can only repeat the last one for that level you will get diminished returns in my experience.

I've found in my 40 hours and 2 wins that repeating the highest tier mansus dream always gives me plenty of high-enough expeditions for me to unlock the next dream door. I've only rarely upgraded (expedition) lore cards and I wasn't even aware you could combine 2 different aspects up until now.

I have aquestion regarding that.
I heard that Followers are not endless which sucks btw with 6 billion peoples on the planet you should think that you can use up a few of em before running out and the Book store is closed on me on me since i bought them all.

Are there alway Expeditions and books coming in or do they run out eventually too?

Also i do know that some things that should only exist once drop double and then it gets deleted. But is that true for rites and other things too? Or can i trap myself that way too?

There are unlimited expeditions (more specifically, you can re-discover and repeat expeditions to some areas - my interpretation is that you find either different parts of it, or different instances of it, eg. you can find many warehouses on the docks with mysterious stuff.)

There's a finite number of books, but that number is high enough that you probably won't run out unless you go completely crazy with lore conversions or the Rite of the Watchmen's Sorrow. I recommend never using that rite at all.

That's fine if you have the answer to the stag door's riddle.
If you get unlucky like me you can repeat the same low-paying expeditions over and over hoping that the meager spoils will grant you the one specific card you need - or you can grind lore up and go on higher level ones.

The same goes for your cult. If you get unlucky and don't get high enough lore cards to upgrade your followers to a disciple you will be having problems on expeditions.

The White Door gives Histories 6 (via the Orchid of Lights). That's more than enough to get all but the highest-tier stuff.

And you should be able to get access to some basic summoning just from the bookstore and the auction house, I believe? Or you can use hirelings. Just grind out a bunch of Histories at any specific level, assemble a team of hirelings and whatever you can summon, then shove them through it over and over until you have everything.

As I said as long as you get lucky.
I think you are underestimating the RNG involved in expeditions, books etc.
I had spent like five hours with a fully operational cult that could take any expedition and challenge without a problem but just never got the specific lvl 6 heart lore I needed. Since conversion was bugged I could do nothing but wait.
By the time I managed to get through the stag door I have already went to the highest level expedition. I was almost ready for ascension.

It sounds like you just got exceptionally unlucky then. One of the thousands of players was bound to get exceptionally unlucky. You're geting so much pushback from the comments cause of your frustration fueled incendiary title. I'm sorry you had a bad time, but maybe dont elevate your experience to universal fact? We could be having a more productive discussion, beyond "I found the game frustrating!" "you're wrong because I didn't!".

If (for the 1/1000 players that RNGesus hates) the only valid option is to wait 6 hours to randomly roll the correct book and as a result have a misserable time with the game, then its bad design.

Either you need to mitigate RNG behind the scenes so if something specific needs to be rolled it happens quickly 2-3 expeditions TOPS, or the process of avoiding RNG (in this case combining/subverting lore) needs to be an equally valid option.

Since there is so much BS with option 2 and option 1 RNGesus can just say F you in particular. Then there is a bad game design element in play and is valid to complatin about it till its addressed.

This bug certainly needs to be fixed. But having a rare bug and exceptionally bad luck at the same time, does not make for a good reason to overhaul a functional system.
It seems to me like the lore transmutation system already in place would solve exactly the problem OP has with passing that (first) door.
Because specific dream locations consistently yield incantations of specific aspects, that already serves as your garanteed mid-game access for ie. cultist promotion.
