Reason/Erudition Lockout
I have been enjoying the game so far, but there is one notable problem that seems practically impossible to overcome.

Namely, it is impossible to build up six Erudition at once except by blind chance outside of your control. You can use Study with Reason to generate up to three Erudition at once, which gets you halfway there. Talking with Lantern cultists can get you one, and takes 120 seconds and does not always work, visiting the Cabaret can get you one but even less reliable, and even if you draw Erudition on both of those you are still short by one Erudition you need to upgrade your Reason if you are at Scolarship Two, unless you also - by complete chance - get a Lantern Time draw. I have been trying to do exactly that for several hours now in futility.

I am at a point of the game where I am at Scholarship 2 and have read all of the Essay Collections (Bookstore is closed, Auction House only sells Deep Mysteries now). Normally at this point most people should be sitting at 8 Reason, but due to a Dry Curse tailspin (Let's just say I have awful, awful luck with Exploration mission rolls and leave it at that) I am now actually sitting pretty on exactly ONE reason, since Dread cannot be converted back to it.

Are there any *reliable* methods for generating Erudition aside from Study using Reason? Note that at Scholarship 2 I need at LEAST six at once to upgrade again, and if I want more than just 2 Reason in the future I will need eight Erudition per upgrade.

If I have to restart I can, but it's obscene to think that there is no reliable way to recover Reason especially in the early game when Dry Curses are abundant but most Cults will lack sufficiently skilled Lantern/Heart followers to reliably overcome it.

Turning in a Commission will generate Erudition. There are 4? Patrons currently in the game, and the turn-in portion of Commissions is fairly quick, so if you turn in all 4 in quick succession that's 4 Erudition.

Also, summons are very useful for dealing with Expeditions, as they usually have 8+ in two Aspects. A couple recipes in spoilers below if you're interested.

Lantern 6, Edge 2, Knock 2
Grail 6; Moth 2; Knock 2

I've found no reliable methods.
Another source of erudition, however, is beyond the white gate, if you can figure out how to get there. Not reliable at all though, only happens once in a while.

Turning in commissions for Patrons is actually a coin flip between drawing Erudition and Glimmering, but I just tried it out with White Door Erudition Draws as well and have devised a means of garning up to 8 Erudition at once. It is frustrating, time-consuming, tedious, and still partly chance-based - but is is now down to replicatable methods.

-Begin by studying Reason and exploring the White Door (always visit the Sage Knight) in your dreams simultaneously. Repeat until you get an Erudition draw from the Mansus, make sure your Studying is always simultaneous with your dreaming.

-Once you get those two draws, keep dreaming and studying, and then turn in all four of your patrons. They will not give sure-fire Erudition drops, but basic math dictates you should usually get two each cycle.

-Immediately start work on another commission for an extra draw. You should have time to complete just one before the Erudition burn-out catches up with you. You can also visit the Cabaret as well if you feel like it, although personally all the Notoriety draws you may get will be tedious to deal with.

You still need to get lucky to get all the draws you need, but there are now at least multiple, reliable, largely safe draw opprotunities. This makes it possible to grind Reason up infinitely along with Health and Passion.

You can complete this without commissions if you allow one Erudition: A Lesson Learned to decay into an Erudition - you then need to generate 7 Erudition and combine them as late as possible, and it's totally doable. It does require you to let at least one A Lesson Learned to decay, however.

The Lantern Time draws are not complete chance. Implicate the lantern at every opportunity, even to the point of having Lantern-disciples exploring the city on your behalf. Clerical work can help as well, but even more reliable is to paint your lessons of erudition into the world as well, so that what you have summoned may be there when the time has come to draw upon it.

As dorianmode said, you need to turn the Eruditions into Lessons Learnt when they're about to expire.

It's definitely trickier than Passion and Health, though.

I don't think it's a cointflip. I think grail, moth, and heart yield glimmer, while the remainder yield erudition. So two of the patrons will always yield erudition, one of the patrons will yield glimmer 1:2 times (i.e. Count) and the other (i.e. Mme B.) will yield glimmer 2:3 times.

For building up Erudition Lesson Learnt, another trick is talking to Sulochana. You can add essentially any card to her after using the talk action, thus you can effectively hold cards that have decay timers. This is a fairly easy way to extend the life of you other cards, if you don't need the talk action available.

Regarding lore addition/subversion
I usually have my commissions ready so I can draw two eruditions or two glimmers. You only need up to 3 to subvert or advance the lore. This makes the odds of you needing three eruditions or three glimmers 1:32. Even so, I think completing 2/3 will still give you a 70% chance of success, so I don't ever really plan on needing 3 of Erd or Glm. It's just adjusted 1:74 fail that you have to accept.
