What is scholarship good for and how do I mass produce erudition?

I grinded till I got a notable scholarship but find that it's not really used for anything... what is it actually used for?

Also, how do I mass produce erudition? Creating it is too slow and I can never accumulate 6

At the moment, scholarship is only used for converting erudition into reason. That may change in future updates or DLC. Studying Reason will always produce Eruditon. Turning in Commissions will always produce Erudition. There are currently 4? Patrons you can do Commissions for, and the actual turn in portion of the Commission is fairly quick so if you store them up and turn them in back-to-back you can get several Erudition fairly quickly.
Generally, you're going to be wanting to use A Collection of Essays more than scholarship for converting Erudition to Reason.

Commissions don't always produce erudition. They usually will, but some will produce glimmering instead.
