How to find the stag door?
My game has ground to a halt, and I feel like upgrading my temptation:enlightenment card will allow me to proceed

How much dreaming have you done? From the way you're describing your situation, it sounds like you need to experiment much more with dreaming to discover the way forwards.

If you've already gotten started down that path and you're stuck further on, I can give more advice, but I don't want to spoil more than necessary.

Are you trying to solve the riddle and can't?

Yes please. Just directions, if possible

The directions are by their nature spoilers. And I should point out that this is a lengthy multi-step process - you're not supposed to jump straight to the Stag Door. In fact, reaching it is probably more significant, in the short term, than what you're trying to do with it.

So I'd suggest just reading these up to the point where you're stuck and figuring it out from there, since otherwise you're skipping a significant part of the game - figuring these steps out is part of the game's main puzzle. That said:

1. You need to get Way: The Wood by dreaming with Passion, then adding Lantern, Moth, or Knock as your lore. (Possibly other combinations of dreams and lore will work?)

2. Dream with Way: The Wood with at least level 4 Lantern (the description on that lore hints at this) to access Way: The White Door.

3. Dream with Way: The White Door and add your desire (as it instructs you to) to access the riddle. It's different in every game.

4. Dream with the riddle and submit the answer to pass.

Bam, you're at the Stag Door.

4. Dream with the riddle and answer with Lantern 6 to pass (it's clearly the answer to the riddle once you see its name / description.)

Bam, you're at the Stag Door.

the riddle is not always the same! so the answer varies!

Oh, huh. I didn't know that part.

The riddle does not make sense game-wise. The slot requires a lore-aspect card. I assume that there are 9 of these with multiple levels. However, none of them work. So it's either me missing more cards with lore aspect, or that slot requires a lore-aspect card of certain level. Which can be totally unpredictable as you wil have to try each level of lore*each lore type.

The riddle and the flavor text from the matching lore are normally quite obvious if you have the matching one. But yes you might need a specific level of a certain lore. Best way is to write down the flavor text of lower lvls you combine into a higher one just in case, but I'm pretty sure it's always a level 6 lore ( Need to do more testing before confirming this, which would ease my ming by just letting me upgrade all lore to level 6 and wait before upgrading further until I cleared the riddle )

Well, that significantly lowers the options I need to check. Thank you.

I really have not been dreaming, so that's probably the problem

Do you know if the game pulls any punches re: supplying the lore that has the answer? I've exhausted (and studied) the books I could get from Morland's, Oriflamme, and the three locations I've plundered, and I can't make level 6 in three of the lores with what I have.

Remember you can unmake (by adding reason) and subvert lores (by adding the same tier of the other lore) to turn them into eachother so you should always have enough, though admittedly that might take a while, but in theory you can turn any lore into any other lore.

As you said, takes ages. Doesn't work for Secret Histories either, nothing becomes them. If the answer to the riddle is randomized just so...

You can get infinite amounts of Secret History lore (they drop from Wood and White Door dreaming with Passion).

Just got one, though it's still less than lvl 6. I'm not seeing a lot of Stories drop in this playthrough..

Oh, well, guess I'll gut another Weary Detective while I wait.
