It's less surprising that those who can't figure this out are also the kind of person who doesn't use a search function or at least check the last couple of pages to see if anyone else asked the same question.
So it seems more like a bug than a feature.
Also you don't need to drag the cards back to your entrance; just picking them up and dragging them a little in *some* direction will break you out.
Yep, considering all the other things how the game works, it is greatly sticking out from all the other systems. When i first played the game i remember it was not that intuitive that i need to grab the card, nor that i can choose other options. (But then the wiki and all these additional helping sites were not available. I also played it on GOG so using steam forums did not even occur to me.)
It still annoys me that i have to manually remove the card i got from its slot, after exiting the dream, and i just cant use the "collect cards" button as it does not exist there.
Not always sadly, just like how sometimes the Forest displaces itself:)
I have a neatly arranged deck, with all the dream doors, but sometimes the forest just jumps to the "received card queu" instead of the place.
