Which is to say that it very likely affects nothing or possibly everything.
(There is nothing related to the core game that it does. It does things related to a strange metagame which, based on his previous work, is likely related to the sources of fiction that inspired Alexis, the head writer/dev/tiger. The murders are a clue, I've not gone further yet)
How does that help?
I do well to think the OP asked what mechanical effect it has within the game. If none, then why does this "option" exist?
So how does this mechanic influence the game, troll?
I think you honestly don't know how to read English.
If it's a swtich for the sake of being a switch and no other purpse it's not part of the core game in any shape or form. This means it has no purpose and doesn't need to be there.
A menu screen option that does nothing for the game that is played is not a game mechanic.
I bet you're the type to think language setting and screen resolution are game mechanics. XD Oh boy. All sorts of people in this world.

All hail the worm and the mysteries of the worm!
