Do secret headquarters only destroy notoriety once?
Or is there a random chance of destroying any notoriety once it's on the board?

There is a chance whenever you use them. If you don't use them, you don't lose notoriety.

Switching to a new headquarters will destroy a notoriety guaranteed, but this only happens one time. You'll need to change headquarters again to trigger this event. However, three of the headquarters are considered 'secret', the Warehouse (Cater and Hero Limited), the hospital (St. Agnes) and the Mithraeum. If your current headquarters is one of these, any time you use the headquarters as part of an action, it will suck up a random reputation card and destroy it with a three-minute cooldown.

Exploring it with money (forge influence) didn't work to do that though. Do I need to imprison a follower to trigger it or are there other ways?

I didn't use headquarters much, or at all apart from imprisoning people. Imprisoning definitely triggered notoriety removal.

Using it for it's Pit/Sanctuary aspect when upgrading Lore can also trigger it at the completion of the upgrade. Upgrades can take some time however, so not very good for quick removal.

Headquarters with the Secret trait have a chance to create a 'Benefits of Privacy' every time they're used, if one isn't already on the board.

It seems to be a very, very low chance. I'd be surprised if it's more than 10%.

Useful when it happens, but not something to rely on.

The Induction (mechanical term for the random chance to spawn a Verb based on aspects used) is a 30% chance for The Benefits of Privacy when you have the Secret Aspect. It doesn't matter how you use the HQ card, as long as you use it in something, same with all Aspect-based Inductions.

This is correct. Also, The Benefits of Privacy take 180 seconds to work, so there is no sence in trying to trigger it while it's still active

Problem with notoriety?

Talk to a "hearth" cultist about your cult. They will go around "charming" people, convincing them that those bad things they hear are fake (at least sometimes).

I'm not going to lie, but cultist job are pretty confusing for a beginner. I know this game is based on exploring rather than explaining stuff, but this is so basic that it shouldn't be obscured IMO.

Well I know that, but it's not certain to work. sometimes you get a rumour to explore and your notoriety back
