I was puzzled.
I guess TWD being boring in general and irrelevant for years by now also fits the game then, that explains why OTWD is so bad
There's no point in blunt moves if the outcome is going to result in a worse game. This is why games aren't hyper realist to begin with and why Shenmue freaking sucks.
The whole argument about "Its TWD Universe, deal with it" is stupid. While the format where anyone can die at any moment fits the TV Shows and Comics, it really does not fit the game, where realism and immersion have already been shredded to pieces.
They can kill Heather off in the story, Im fine with that. What Im not fine with, is the fact that we cant play as her anymore past her death, and when they will allow us to play as her, it will only be in missions prior to Home Sweet Home. The reason why this is another ridiculous game design choice, is because the story in Overkill's The Walking Dead has already been proven to not be tied to the gameplay. What I mean about that is this:
Since the first lobby you may have ever joined, you already saw the same characters in a lobby and in a game, example, 2 or more Maya's playing in the same mission. Story wise, it makes no sense, because there's only 1 Maya, yet gameplay wise everyone can play as Maya if they wanted to, or any other character. They can also interact with one another, being fully aware that a exact clone of them is right beside them, talking to them, and fighting walkers with them. Once again, makes no sense.
Another reason is that once you unlock Reina after Heathers death, you can play as Reina in all the mission prior to Home Sweet Home, the missions where Reina was our enemy and we were fighting against The Family. Reina is the leader of The Family, and story wise, it makes zero sense for her to be in the earlier missions, AND fighting against her own people AND have her own people fight her. In Open Seasons it also makes no sense when you play as Reina, and you're rescuing Reina. Story wise, it makes no sense, gameplay wise, it makes sense because people should be allowed to play who they want.
Another reason is that after Home Sweet Home, Camp Anderson is burned down and destroyed, we cant access it anymore because its gone, YET we can still do The First Shot and Worse Than Walkers, two defense STORY missions that take place inside Camp Anderson. And if you look around at the camp, you'll see that it looks brand new, as if it never got burned down, even though story wise, it just did. Once again, gameplay wise it makes sense because players should not be locked out from doing any mission they want.
So there's some proof that the story in this game is clearly not tied in with the gameplay, yet for some reason they don't want to allow us to play as Heather in all the current missions, and all future missions because "She died in the story". This makes me feel like the only reason why they killed off Heather was because they wanted a big plot twist halfway through the game, but it feels like OVERKILL did not think about any of the consequences, nor did they think about the bigger picture, or how their gameplay is already not tied in to their story.
This is why this format does not work in video games. Yes, it works in TV Shows and Comics, but thats because you're not personally surviving the zombie apocalypse as that character, in a game, you chose to play as Heather, you played as her through all those missions in the Beta and Full Release, you made memories with her and created a bond between you and her that you wouldn't be able to create with Survivors in TV Shows or Comics.
Using the excuse "It's set in TWD universe, deal with it" does not justify her death and her being locked out from all the current and future missions.
