Thinking about buying, how long is this game?

I'd say it depends on how much of a completionist you are, but between 15 and 20 hours. You could probably do it in less than 15 if you rushed, avoided sidequests and did not stop to admire the scenery (all something I don't recommend)

I agree with Mandrake42. Your first run-through will take 15 to 20 hours. Around half of this is because you don't know what to do. However, you are unlikely to discover all the content in your first run-through. It's possible to miss entire missions and subplots if you don't explore every corner.

Personally, I just find the game relaxing. I have all the achievements, but I regularly just play for 30-45 minutes just listening to the music and finding nice things to paint. I know that is a very personal view, and mileage may vary, but I enjoyed the game enough that I went back in for a "jerk" run through.

I heard great things about this game from a friend who bought it and played it. I also really like what I see in the trailers. I have put off buying it for myself, even though it looks perfect for my needs and wants, partly because I read in a couple of places that one can do everything in something like 10-15 hours. Akkamaddi, I would like to hear more about your experience in relation to this matter. If one plays at a leisurely pace as you describe, how many hours of gameplay would this game likely provide? (I don't expect an exact number, just a guess or a range, please and thanks.)

What do you mean by 'everything' ? Finish the main mission as fast as possible ? Do all the quests ? Or do all the quests and get all the collectables ?

What do I mean by "everything"? Well, I was paraphrasing reviewers' claims that I read weeks ago, so I'll look up a couple of them to see if they specified in any detail what they meant. At www.pcgamer.com/eastshade-review, the reviewer seemed to say of the game as a whole, "Eastshade isn't huge - I finished in about 10 hours..." Please understand that I am not claiming that he is right to say that he finished what the game offers, i.e., everything, in that time. I only said that I read it. Similarly at www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/02/11/eastshade-review, the reviewer describes the main quest, subquest examples, and "exploring far and wide," and after that says, "Eastshade is a good length, too. I’m guessing, but maybe 15 hours?...By the time the game was over I was really sad to be done. As it ended I thought, 'Gosh I’m going to miss being in Eastshade.'" The implication is that he felt he did everything in the game, so I summarized with the word "everything." The reviewers didn't say whether or not they got all the collectables, and didn't say how rushed their game play was. As for me, I was hoping that Akkamaddi, and/or other players, might tell me that if I buy the game and play at a somewhat relaxed pace, I might get to play for 20-30 hours, or whatever the case may be. I'd be glad to hear something like that.

Just popping in to add that I'm another person who will play and replay forever. My first playthrough took a little over 20 hours, I think, because I was very much taking my time and still figuring things out. I'm in my second playthrough now, to go back and get every achievement, and finding that I can both get things done much faster if I want to, but also that there's even more to do to slow down and find.

Same as akkamadi, I like to play just to play. Even once I've "done everything," there will always be something new to paint. New lighting, times of day, compositions/angles, and tea experimentation can even make the SAME thing you're painting new.

I'm an artist irl and this game is doing wonders for my irl inspiration. I literally painted one of the paintings I did in game.
