Eastshade Animal Types
Just for fun: what animal "folk" type do you think the main character would be, or which type would you play as, if you were allowed to choose? What is your favorite character design between the four? or five :)

Personally, I think the main character is most likely an owlfolk. Most other "artist types" in the game tend to be owlfolk, like Yevinhy the artist, the author in the forest, and the singer/composer near the Seltspring coast. And I know the MC isn't a bearfolk because another character asks you if Bearfolk exist or if they're just a myth!

That's true actually... not really thought of it like that.
Maybe he's none of those though.
If our character is from the mainland, we could imagine that other animal types might live there in more abundance.
If so, I might choose to be a cat folk... or wolf folk ?

Aesthetically, I kind like the deer-folk best though.

That never even crossed my mind! But it definitely is a possibility. Cool idea!

Personally, I'm leaning towards deerfolk as the most likely answer. The main character's POV is such that all the owlfolk and apefolk appear significantly shorter than them, but they can look the deerfolk characters in the eye.

Big brain time, haha. I guess I just didn't pay attention to that.

He’s definitely not an owl folk tho, or else he would have known the deal with black thistles!

This is a sequel to another game caled Leaving Lyndow that takes place in the mainland, and everyone in the mainland are mostly human and part monkey. At least I think they are, as they all wear masks covering their mouths. The developer said it was because he didn't know how to lip-sync yet, and these new characters are animals so they don't accidentally go into Uncanny Valley. Anyway, the rest of their head looks mostly human.

If the MC is from the mainland, then it's safe to assume he's also human-ish.

Leaving Lyndow isn't set on the mainland, it's the same town where the artist in Eastshade winds up after the shipwreck. The former is just set some years earlier in time, when Lyndow was still under construction at its new site following the landslide that destroyed Old Lyndow. The protagonist of Leaving Lyndow is even referenced as a relative of one Eastshade family, who'd left to sail the seas.

The main character is at least half of the same race as the mother in Leaving Lyndow, unless he or she is adopted. Your character's mother looks mostly human, has light skin, very large ears, a small but snoutish-type nose, and her eyes are dark - even the "whites" of her eyes are dark. Her mouth is covered by a scarf and all other parts of her body, except for her hands, are covered by her clothes. The picture of dad looks even more human.

That's the main character of Leaving Lyndow, not the main character of Eastshade. You're playing a different character in the other game; in fact, you meet the family of the Lyndow character while playing Eastshade, and it's mentioned how that character went off to sea years ago.

I'd have to get back on the game again to make sure, but my impression was that the person who went off to sea was a relative of the main character in Leaving Lyndow - as in sibling or aunt - something like that.
