Difficult Achievements

Does anyone know how to learn the backstory of Maddox's eye? I've tried befriending Maddox as best as I possibly can, but there still doesn't seem to be a solution.

I don't know either and I want to know. I thought either trying to befriend him would work (it didn't) or fight him might work (didn't either). If someone could tell me then I could unlock that path and finally have a direction to work towards and enjoy working towards it. Right now, I'm very lost and confused.

Yeah, I've played this game hundreds of times (I absolutely love everything about it, it's my favorite COG game ever) and I still keep finding new dialogue and situations. I recently just discovered you can, along with Bene and Maddox, light the side of Helmut's house on fire.

I was playing an extremely feral cat for that playthrough. It seemed to make Andre strongly dislike me even though I did it for him because Helmut came up to his window and dissed his music.

You have to be a pretty feral cat. You go riff with Andre. Helmut comes up to the window and tells Andre to stop the racket, you then leave to take revenge for him. You run into Bene and Maddox after they've finished eating all the meat defrosting in the sink and the three of you go over there and start a fire by tipping a trashcan over. I can't remember the specifics, but that was how it happened for me.

I assume that you have to be feral, have a decent relationship with Andre, and be somewhat loyal.

I can't get the Maddox's New Home achievement. I've tried doing every choice I can to advance Maddox's cause and become friends with him, but somehow I'm still not getting it. Wish there was an achievement guide for this game.

I realize this is an old topic but I wanted to post the solutions for future players anyway.


Maddox Eye Backstory: You unlock it at the same time as Jaws of Death - which I think requires you to start on Andre's route, and then veer hard into befriending Maddox/antagonizing Helmut.

Maddox's New Home: This one is convoluted as hell but involves influencing a certain someone to adopt him, Claire getting really drunk, and "inviting" Maddox into the party all in ch8.


I was able to stumble into Jaws of Death on my own, but some people on the Choice of Games forums were kind enough to post step-by-step instructions for each of these achievements.[forum.choiceofgames.com] Hope this helps somebody!
