I havent posted a review before but considering the only other one so far was so negative I feel like I should say I'm loving this game so far. It's probably not for you if you like quest markers, maps, dialog, or a generally more guided mechanical discovery experience. Something about the atmosphere in the game makes me feel really nostalgic but i can't put my finger on why. I'm mostly attracted to the art style but the i stayed for the music and the bird. Taking a break because the thing in the castle is too hard.

The game suffers from clunky controls, vague hitboxes, and general lack of polish. Enemies frequently disappear into the terrain (though at least they are still highlighted when behind the obstacles).
In terms of the narrative, I understand that the developer wanted to do purely environmental storytelling, but there's just not enough of it. You see your mother disappear into an eldritch portal, and then you go fight monsters that are hanging out outside your house.

Game length isn't even two hours long, for it's price you can pick up a few actually functioning games of the same style.

I enjoyed this game, but I feel like there isn't much there regarding content. Levels aren't terribly designed, but enemies are recycled, exploration isn't really required if you don't use healing items, and hitboxes are meh (I'm looking at you, axe).
Overall, not a bad game. Short. Buy on sale or if you're into these sorts of games.

Elden Path of the Forgotten is the title presented by the dev solo from Onerat Games Studios. An 8-bit RPG title that will give you a lot of headaches, for having a difficult combat architecture and without any kind of guide in terms of the narrated story.

It all starts when Elden, the main character, sees his mother enter a black portal after performing a dark ritual. Elden is thus obliged to understand what happened and try to save his mother.

Telling stories contextually without any kind of narrative where the plot is presented through the world itself is an attractive idea for some, but difficult to achieve. As much as I would like to give credit to this title for having taken the risks of this decision making, it is difficult to point out something good in the narrative. After the initial cutscene where we see Elden’s mother entering the dark portal, the game doesn’t tell you anything at all. Each door or area has small phrases or names in an imperceptible language, which makes navigation and new areas discovered quite confusing.

In the beginning, the player has only one sword at his disposal, however, it is possible to find different weapons and even unlock some magic skills. The combat system is difficult and sometimes a little clumsy since sometimes the attacks do not produce any type of damage, not because the enemies have some kind of armor, but because the game itself does not record the damage. It is really an aspect that becomes frustrating, especially against the strongest enemies.

It is still possible to dodge enemy attacks, parry while trying to survive the enemy hordes. Three bars of different colors are displayed on the screen that indicates the character’s life, in purple, stamina, green, and the mana bar, blue. It is important to keep in mind these bars, because each melee attack, as well as the ability to dodge enemy attacks, use the stamina bar, and when it ends, it is almost impossible to escape taking damage. To regain life it is possible to consume elements such as apples or find random points on the map like a purple portal. The same happens with the save points, this time with a yellow color.

Nice pixel graphics and animation here. Intriguing sprites and animation, and good mood. But the game seriously lacks depth. There's not a whole lot to do but dodge-roll, dodge-roll, slash slash slash, cast a ball, regen, dodge-roll, ad infinitum.

What a fun little game, one of the highlights for me was just getting lost in the world and trying to make sense of it all. It's nice to see a game that doesn't spoon feed you everything you need to know, so it sort of makes you stop and think about what you're doing and where you're going instead of mindlessly swinging a sword and waiting for the answers. It's fun getting lost on the forgotten path.

This is a game with an interesting premise, but poor implementation.

Controls and movement feel about 25% lagged behind what one would assume; boss fights are a bit silly; overworld play consists of trying to find the next savegame pad and dodging fire and shadow attacks (in the second area).

This is a game with the open-ended storytelling mechanic of La Mulana and the gameplay and value proposition of slamming your hand in a car door.

Between dev-estimated playtime (3-5 hours) and cost ($15.99USD), the overall rating is in the 2-3 scale.

The game is short, the AI constantly gets stuck behind the scenario, there's no penalty in simply run from the enemies, in fact it's a perfectly viable way to play the game except for one bit when you have to fight and, ofc, the fights against the bosses. You can't also rebind your keys, so you are kinda forcet to use a controller. I understand the concept of unviromental story telling, but that didin't work here, at least to me. Maybe I'm just dumb.

The visual art is magnificent, that I can praise.

In current state I cannot recomend the game, despite being inlove by the release trailer. So unfortunate... :(
