It is hard to tell how someone would react that shares a lot with the main character and her childhood, but I doubt that it is going to do much good, although not necessarily something bad either. Her story and surroundings are often only briefly touched on, as a background to her character, they don't really play a major role in the actual plot, unless I missed something.
All in all, regarding the ending, I think that I don't spoil something when I say that it is an open ending, almost a cliff hanger. They could easily produce a second game that continues the plot and there are evidences in the story, what characters say and items that you inspect, that hint at a larger universe and possible other content in it in the future. There is definitely room for that, making this game almost a teaser, despite also telling Misfortune's story.
