I'm stuck at the zoo. I keep being told I need to find the wolf on the map, so I go back to the map. No prompts happen even if I press buttons on the number 6, wolf.
I've closed and reloaded. Is there an item or something i'm missing? I simply cannot progress. I can open the map but nothing changes. She simply moves her finger and no dialogue happens.
I press E on the wolves. Nothing happens.
Hello Katvonb666,
Did you refund already? Or did you purchase the game on another game store?
One other gamer reported an issue with sound not playing in the game right here in this bug thread. Here's his post, and my troubleshooting reply: https://steamcommunity.com/app/714120/discussions/0/2952595757894187956/?ctp=3#c1629663905409513061.
I add to what I suggested earlier in that reply: another gamer indicated a problem with hearing dialog in the game (sounds and music played ok), and he later edited that post to indicate that his sound problem was related to his headphone's cable not being seated properly. So you might want to check your sound output connection to make sure it's seated properly too.
Since you said you did everything to troubleshoot, but didn't give any details, I really cannot be more helpful than this reply. Feel free to post again if you want to discuss further.
Hello PrettyPrincess,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble with the zoo map.
Edited on 9/23/19--upon further reflection about this, I believe you are playing with "Keyboard" only as input device. And while in the close-up view of the zoo map, you are unable to use the [E] key on your keyboard to activate the dialog between Misfortune and Mr. Voice at the various exhibits on the zoo map. I have updated the Killmonday Games bug database with this issue, as I have now been able to replicate it. The game will proceed with the dialog right now if the player uses either the [Enter] or [Spacebar] key instead of the [E] key.
I hope this helps if you are still stuck and trying to play the game. Sorry for my confusion earlier.
Old Reply
I think I don't quite understand what might be happening when you play because I'm having trouble replicating the issue.
Are you using a gamepad/controller, keyboard, or keyboard and mouse to play the game? I don't have a controller, so perhaps that's why I cannot replicate your issue. Others in the studio will certainly test to see if they can replicate the bug. But, in the meantime, can you switch to another input device to see if this makes the problem go away? I realize too that this may not be possible or convenient.
Is the problem that you can't get Misfortune's finger to get to the wolf picture on the map? I don't think that's it because you say "No prompts happen even if I press buttons on the number 6, wolf".
If you're playing with a keyboard only, you can use the [W] key to move Misfortune's finger up to reach the wolf. And once you're there, you need to either press the [ENTER] key or the [SPACEBAR] to trigger the dialog.
If playing with a mouse, you can directly left click on the wolf to trigger the dialog.
And once the dialog has been triggered, returning to the map should result only in a close-up view of the map, but Misfortune's hand will not appear on the map again once you've found the wolf and exit from the map. Or clicking on the wolf with a mouse will result in no dialog again.
This probably isn't what's happening to you either, but if you did somehow trigger the right dialog on the map after pointing to the wolf, and just didn't see it; you would now be able to proceed further into the zoo to find the wolf. So you may wish to try doing that now. I realize this may also not be what's happening to you.
Please post again to let me know if you're still having the issue, what input device you're using when you have the issue (gamepad/controller, keyboard only, or keyboard + mouse) or whether you're able and willing to use a different input device temporarily to get past the issue. But we will certainly take a look again at the code in this part of the game.
I'm sorry for your trouble, PrettyPrincess.
I'm playing on Mac OSX. It was jumpy when I played on Yosemite so I upgraded to El Capitan. It was better for a bit but now I just can't play anymore. Yikes forever ! :(
Hello dearflynn,
Yikes forever, indeed!
I'm sorry you're having trouble with gameplay in Little Misfortune. I don't have a Mac here, so I can't try to replicate your issue, but I know someone in the Killmonday studio will be able to try to replicate the issue soon.
In the meantime, can you access the menu for the game by pressing the [ESC] key? If the menu comes up, will you please select Load from the menu, then look at the autosave picture. I believe it will show the cave entrance with Misfortune there. If it does, load the autosave and try to go to the Hamster club again. See if it performs differently this time.
The issue of Little Misfortune rapidly turning first left, then right, over and over tends to be caused by either a lower speed processor or low RAM. Can you provide some specs on your Mac? What model of Mac is it, what make/model of processor does it have, and how much RAM does it have?
This has happened to me on both Windows and Linux computers when the speed of the processor was low. On Windows, I could sometimes recover from Misfortune rapidly moving left and right over and over by using ALT-F4 to toggle in and out of the game rapidly. I don't know if there is a similar way to do that on a Mac, but if you can do that, you may be able to cause the game to resume activity.
Also, if you have any other programs running when you're trying to play Little Misfortune, shutting those down may be helpful in freeing up some needed RAM, and/or lessen any unneeded stress on the computer processor.
I don't know if any of this is helpful, dearflynn. If you post again with any results of trying my suggestions, I would appreciate it.
But we will definitely look at this section of the game while using our test Mac computer as well and see if we can replicate your results.
Thanks for your comments, and for any further information you can provide. And I am sorry for your inconvenience.
- i didn't pick up the fish but somehow had the fishbones in my pocket later
Hello empiresants,
Thanks for this report.
Regarding the red balloons tied to the fence in Phantasmagoria: We've had one other report about this. That gamer indicated that the balloons were glitched when she returned to that scene from the left. Were those balloons glitched when you first approached from the right, or did you also backtrack and see the glitch when you approached them from the left (or both)? She also indicated she was playing on a Mac. Were you playing on a Windows, Mac, or a Linux computer? I ask all this because I haven't been able to replicate this issue while playing on a Windows computer. Also do you have a screenshot? Here's mine: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wrlwOV28NDg8js9uyejIgqg_q9SqAVRI with no glitch.
We'll take a look at the issue of Rodrigo's fishbones again too. I was not able to replicate and tried by doing this: (1) Gave Rodrigo the fish to the seagull. (2) The seagull ate Rodrigo and spit his bones onto the ground. (3) Misfortune did not pick up the bones. (4) At the cemetery there was no opportunity to bury Rodrigo's bones. The grave was filled in when Misfortune approached. Here's a video: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1eYdsrZ1B7zX2i3J-Var0NU1a_LiBIbO7
I understand that just because I cannot replicate the issues you've experienced, that doesn't mean they didn't happen to you. But it does mean that it makes it difficult to patch. If you can repeat being able to bury Rodrigo even though you didn't pick up his bones, and had a video, then we would be able to see what you did differently in your playthrough than I did in mine. I also know this may not be possible for you to do.
In any case, we'll take a look at the code again and if we can find something to patch, we will.
Thanks again for your report, empiresants.
For your first question, yes. I see the vase back on the table and Misfortune says "I did it" but I cannot move or interact with anything, or even open the menu. However, I know the game is not frozen because the music stil plays, the camera still moves, and ambient animations like the motes of dust in the lighting are still moving.
For your second question, yes, I selected new game.
I followed your instructions and the game is still unresponsive at that point.
I've been playing on a MacOS. Processor 1.8 GHz Intel Core i5, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 of memory. For graphics, Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB.
Hello again Claire,
Thanks for replying to my post. I'm sorry that nothing I suggested helped you to get past the issues you experienced. I'm not sure if playing on a Mac with a processor that meets the minimum specs shown for the game on the store page would have prevented this from happening to you. Testing previously in the Killmonday Games studio using a Mac that has a faster processor allowed us to get past both of those places in the game.
We will definitely check the code in the game at both places that you could not proceed, and try to optimize it further, but I cannot guarantee that you will be able to continue playing on your 1.8 GHz processor Mac.
Steam refunds are possible within two weeks of purchase and provided you've played the game for less than 2 hours. Information about Steam refunds may be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/steam_refunds/
I wish I could provide a better outlook about whether you'll be able to play more of Little Misfortune on your Mac computer, Claire.
Hello Vequiur,
A quick Google search found several online sites that said this error pops up with some games if you have FaceIt software installed. Do you have this software installed? If so, if you can either disable it from running while trying to play Little Misfortune, or uninstall it before playing, and report back, I would be grateful.
Thanks
Hello JC,
Thanks for this report of your experience when you make the choice to break the window at the zoo. Is the line that Misfortune speaks and doesn't move her mouth this line: "What if I break this window and make a hell of a noise?"
I've made a short video of the segment you're talking about. Here's the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Z8hAiu9xeSzBHAkbEtufElHdf0cba6j0.
Is this the dialog of the game where Misfortune's mouth doesn't move when she speaks? If so, I wasn't able to reproduce it in the video.
Of course, that doesn't mean it didn't happen to you. Can you confirm that the line you're talking about is that one? If not, please tell me which line it was. Also, if you can give me the specs of your computer (Processor make and model, amount of RAM, make and model of your video card and the amount of video RAM), and whether you're playing the game on a Windows, Mac, or Linux (Linux distribution and version) computer, I can put all this information together and see if we can make any changes to the game there.
Thanks for your help, JC.
Hello YORAN,
Another gamer reported this issue earlier today. My advice to him (after searching the internet for "Fatal error in GC GetThreadContext failed") was that this issue happens sometimes in games when the gamer also has FaceIt software installed. I suggested he either disable it when trying to run Little Misfortune, or uninstall it, then play the game again to see if the error goes away.
That gamer hasn't responded yet. Do you have the FaceIt software installed on your computer? If so, will you please try to either disable it while playing Little Misfortune or uninstall it and then try playing Little Misfortune again?
I would be happy to hear back from you in another post in this thread letting me know if this solved the issue for you.
Thanks for your help, YORAN.
