So, just to be clear, I need to create an account, and without such registration I cannot attempt to try this?
P.S. @ngen, how does it make sense? People would invent all kinds of excuses to exploit your data... That clarification was pure ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥:)
I think it makes sense if they want to break away from Steam. That being said, yes there are a million things they can use our email adresses for. But I doubt that they will fund the game by selling said adresses and what kind of data will they store, Aim data? I dont think there is a black web market for such ;)
Doesn't work. The game freezes for about a minute, and nothing happens when you try to make a new account in it. When trying the new info for login, it says the user isn't found.
The old stats system/if you play offline is all saved to your local machine, so if you go to a different machine the stats will not be there OR if you log in with a different Steam account on the same PC the stats will be the same across both accounts. If you have registered an account you can generate stats/data and then log in on any machine with your Aim Lab account and go to Data Profile then click on "Download Data" and your info will be pulled to that machine for that account.
We have added some things to help with this issue can you please try registering now and let me know if you are still experiencing the same issue? It seems to be only affecting some users.
Not sure why you'd need the same data when switching accounts (yes, there are a lot of cheaters / smurfers etc. using this probably but meh...) so that's not a concern to most I assume.
But could you please enable Steam Cloud saves for those who prefer to run it locally?
Almost every game on steam supports that (and you already support Steam Achievements etc.)
That would solve all the issues with not having the data on a different machine / reinstalling it.
First off the only reason different Steam accounts held the same info is because it was stored in the same location locally(before we had registration) the idea was never to have it like that it was just a way to get up and running quickly.
As for the Steam Cloud saves, I will have to speak with the devs about that, but its my understanding(like mentioned above) that we will not always ONLY be available on Steam and having data stored in multiple places or having separate leaderboards and stats saves for different ecosystems just doesn't make sense for what we are doing. We are using the data generated by all our users to build a system that makes inferences on how they play, what tweaks make that person better and then turning that into guided training, so separating that data imo would be counter productive. As we move closer to a full release and announce some of our bigger surprises it will start to make more sense why we are doing it this way and you will get a better idea of the vision we have for a finished version of Aim Lab.
Just a hint on cloud saves: it's as exclusive as Steam Achievements are, which you also support and hopefully won't drop if you offer this on GoG or a comparably good alternative (although I don't know of any).
Same with the forums here or update news on the store page. It's super easy to integrate too.
In fact tons of games do integrate Steamworks and use it for SSO into their main hub accounts. On standalone you have a seperate account which you can circumvent entirely using Steam or link to Steam if it already exists.
So there's always an option even if you integrate with Steam - unlike other weird platforms like Epic which offer no value for gamers other than re-routing money made off of Fortnite into one free game a week :)
[EDIT]A crazy version I have seen was Punch Club - where you could enable cloud sync to other platforms by just clicking a cloud sync icon, then either generating a code or entering one.
Maybe one of your devs has that and could check. It's awesome for privacy aware users / users not wanting to create a bazillion accounts from which most get hacked at some point[/edit]
