1. Make sure the game is installed before attempting to do the fix. If you uninstalled the game, Please reinstall the game.
2. You need to now uninstall the Games for Windows live software which is shown with a red mark in the picture in this link below.

3. Download the entire folder with the files in this link below and install by clicking on "gfwlivesetup.exe".

After installation is complete. Close it.
You can now open Virtua tennis 4
Don't think this would work on the steam deck, though. Cant see any way of removing Games for Windows Live software from Desktop mode on the Deck with it being Linux-based.
I have copied the set-up files off of the CD, and added the setup.exe as a non-steam game, then forced proton compatibility and it installs fine.
I have then followed the instructions above, and using ProtonTricks (from the discovery centre) I have been able to uninstall the required GFWL components in step 2, and then install the file(s) in step 3. However, when I then try to open the app I get the following error:-
Fatal Error:
User does not have privileges to access this application
I think this is related to the GFWL files as this error does not occur if I am not using xlive.dll (in which case the game doesn't load at all), but as soon as I try to use xlive.dll I get the error above.
I am wondering whether granting permissions may help, but I cannot find the equivalent of run as administrator in Steam/ProtonTricks.
Just to confirm the above instructions do work for my PC, so I know the data files are not corrupt, I just think it is the way Proton is handling this particular instance of GFWL.
If you installed the latest version of Games for Windows live then installed Virtua Tennis 4 after, the Games for Windows live software is going to revert back to it's older version. The reason why this happens is because the setup file from your Virtua Tennis CD has the old version of Games for Windows live (Windows 7) version in it's setup file.
So make sure that you install Virtua Tennis 4 first, then uninstall Games for Windows live and install the new version of Games for Windows live.
You should then be able to run or launch the game
Even copying xlive.dll on VT4 installation folder.
