When I tried to install it, it tried to open Games for Windows Live and then failed, I guess because that marketplace-service doesn´t exist any more. Might you be able to help with circumventing this please

Here is the new fix or solution to make the game work.

1. Make sure the game is installed before attempting to do the fix. If you uninstalled the game, Please reinstall the game.

2. You need to now uninstall the Games for Windows live software which is shown with a red mark in the picture in this link below.

3. Download the entire folder with the files in this link below and install by clicking on "gfwlivesetup.exe".
Please ensure all files are in the folder for the gfwl file to work.

After installation is complete. Close it.

Okay, thanks, will try that! And just to be clear, that method will allow me to play the World Tour, and more specifically will allow me to save my progress as I go along, and save my created player profiles in World Tour mode?

Because, I could always open the game, an even play Exhibition mode, no problem. I could also start a World Tour player profile. The problem is, I can't save my progress in World Tour, without a Games for Windows Live profile. When I quit the game, and then open it and go back to World Tour, my player profile is gone.

Hope your method can help circumvent this? Will it allow me to save progress in World Tour without using GFWL?

Well if saving profile being your issue, here is the solution to make an offline profile

Crucial thing is when it asks you if you want to create new save data you should select "yes". You probably were not getting your data saved because you probably clicked "No"

Thanks, but unfortunately it seems the option (to create a local save profile) is not available any more. It doesn't work for me. That YouTube video is 10 years old.

It is still working. It's just that in the games installation setup it has the Games for windows live version for Windows 7 embedded. So you just need to uninstall that old version of Games for Windows live after installation of Virtua Tennis 4, then install the latest version of Games for Windows live which is compatible with Windows 8- Windows 11
