I've played a few games without issues once GFWL is working (VT4 just right now) but probably it doesn't work with older GFWL installers like the ones included originally with the games.
Can't remember exactly how I did it last time I needed to setup this stuff, but I think you must download the latest GFWL installer: http://www.xbox.com/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient
When you boot the game for the first time, the GFWL overlay appears and you must login with a GFWL/Xbox Live/Microsoft account, then copy and paste the serial number and you are ready to go.
Even VT4 have an update patch via GFWL and it ask you to update the game once you have registered it sucessfully for the first time.
Playing VT4 without GFWL? I don't know if that's possible, but the game still can work as it should with it.
---------------------------
Getting Virtua Tennis 4 to accept that password may require some brute force though.
Today, I tried to play VT4 after a few months away from the game. It refused to take my GFWL email and password. Just in case I'd fat-fingered it, I tried this combination several times. No success. I thought it was not surprising since GFWL is now defunct.
So I tried creating a new login in VT4 using my Microsoft account. No go - I was told the product key has already been used.
Ok, then I tried signing in to my VT4 GFWL account using my Microsoft account details. Incorrect email or password.
Finally, with no other solution in sight, I went full circle and tried signing in with my GFWL credentials yet again. Because why not, right?
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." >_>
This time, VT4 asked for the product key. Huh. That's different. Let's try it.
I pushed in the product key, which VT4 accepted. The game then asked me to apply an update to GFWL. I did so, restarted the game as prompted, and now I can play (and still have access to my old saves).
So, yea, I have no clue what was going on there. Long story short, after multiple failed attempts, VT4 suddenly "decided" to accept my old GFWL password for no obvious reason at all.
The solution to fix this problem is as follows:
1. You need to go into program's list and uninstall both "Games for Windows Live" and "Games for Windows Live Redistribute"
2. Go to this link http://www.xbox.com/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient and download "Games for Windows Live" and install it.
3. When installation is finished. You can then run your game Virtua Tennis 4.
JollyTiger31886: On that link there is no download for GfWL client on PC. It says something about integration of the Xbox Live on Windows 10, using Windows account.
Use this link to download gfwl client (u will need to make an account and it will take a while for it to patch up to the newest version)
https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=98609
Downloaded the client but couldn't connect to a server. I'm from the Czech Republic, so maybe it won't work from here. Or maybe it will work in the game, didn't try yet.
make sure u have a xbox live account, you can test to see if ur account is made by login through xbox live app
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-app?xr=shellnav
Redirected to a Czech version of the page without any content on it. I'm pretty sure it won't work in our conditions.
Damn. At least I hope u can still enjoy the game by playing offline. You can also watch the gameplay videos from the links on our group page. Next year, there will be a new tennis game, called Tennis World Tour (made by topspin4 game design team)
Good to hear that. I hope it will be as good as TS4, tennis world needs a good tennis game. Thanks for your time.
