Is the final boss supposed to be super tedious?

So, I managed to beat the game, but the last boss took FOREVER. Even constantly boosting, it seemed most of the time I'd barely be approaching the boss, and he'd even go further away on occasion. I understand time is your only enemy as Super Sonic, but it's not like it even led to making the fight difficult, since I was easily gaining rings faster than I was losing them.

Is there some technique when it comes to boosting in the final battle? Something I should be doing with the homing attack (It didn't seem to slow the boss down when I shot the other Sonic at him)? I'm almost scared to try the Hard mode fight just because I don't want to have to set aside an hour to do it.

figures that they'd throw in something like that to ruin a perfectly good game. oh well its better than most (I'm looking at you sonic '06)

Had the same problem.. :) Everytime I complete the final boss I think I did it by fluke...

The final boss was stupid. The boss has never hit me but collecting rings was harder than the acual boss. The eggman battle should of been the final boss more enjoyable.

Stay as 2D Sonic and you can easily win in under 3-4 mins.

I don't know what half of you are talking about; I beat the Time Eater in 4-5 minutes on my first try.

Most say it's the worst part of the game. It has problems on the 3ds version too. It's like a memo was sent out to the developers of the console and 3ds versions to make the boss fight unenjoyable.

The boss was difficult and rather annoying imo. I suggest that you play as 2D sonic to collect rings and dodge furniture (ect.), Then go into 3D Sonic and hold the boost 'til you get to the point where he starts hitting you with his arms. Then, POUND THAT BOOST BUTTON!!! (Keep pressing it) Then when you get close, hold it again and prepare to attack his core...
Keep repeating this until you finally get to the finishing attack where you hold LB and RB (Configured by user on keyboard and mouse) until both the Sonics blast it into the boss.
