I despise classic Sonic's Gameplay
Title says it all. I think that the level design for classic Sonic is awful after the Genesis era ends. I also think the Perfect Chaos boss fight is pretty poorly designed.

Respect da Classics.

I played this on PS3 and beat it, some of the level designs for classic sonic were spot on, some of them were horrible.

I think the biggest issue here is the Sonic franchise was always about speed and stuff and some of the classic stages directly contradict that concept by adding in way too many environmental obstacles and hazards.

The early classic stages were really fun and I really left wanting more of that and not everything else the game introduced.
Spot on Kuehnau. While obstacles are good and all, you want it to be in a way that you can still have a good flow, and gain a feel for the levels without having to study them rigorously ;) that's at least how the best Sonic levels have been, without being short or too easy.
Does the author got some hate on Sonic, a complainer, or just paid full price?

Granted, some of the 2D levels had some problems here and there, but overall they were great, especially playing in the Mid-Era Levels, i.e City Escape. Perfect Chaos wasn't great because you weren't Super Sonic. You kicked Chaos' ass just by being regular Sonic.

The only complaint I have for the game is NOT ENOUGH CLASSIC LEVELS! There were only 3 Genesis levels, there needed to be more!

I personally liked classic and modern sonic stages in this game, although Crisis City act 1 is pretty annoying at the end. I think I must be the only one who like Planet Wisp act 2 though, everyone seems to hate it. act 1 is fine, to much spike though.
Well I agree on some parts, but the only disapointed part about the Chaos fight (in my opinion) is that they changed the music for the second part of the fight (also counts for the original). Open your heart is such a mood giver in that fight

Then there's the issue with the criticism of the games not being much like platformers if you're never challenged with obstacles.

I would of perfered they left the classic levels out I hated the genesis games and any other 2D sonic games

You're part of a rather small minority in that...the 2D games are generally considered the best of the series. (I personally have no opinion, since I haven't played the newer ones except a bit of Sonic 3D, and it's been close to 12 years or so since I last played the 2D games that weren't Mean Bean Machine.)

Not sure about that, I would agree that some of the later ones where pretty bad, the stuff I hated the most was the Sonic Colours levels. I guess everyone has there own tastes.
Oh my goodness the Sonic Colors levels. As with Act 1 having awful level design as per usual, Act 2 starts off pretty well and gives you 9 hours of "ROCKET! ROCKET! PRESS X TO BOOST ON THE PLATFORMS! ROCKET! ROCKET!"
Don't forget the:
"BLOCK PLATFORMING BLOCK PLATFORMING BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK"
shut up sonic colors was already bad

Crisis City as Classic sonic annoyed me (but I knew what to do at least, even though I died like 5 times like a poster above). The very final boss was my biggest annoyance though (I felt that they should have kept the semi-scripted approach of Perfect Chaos, but instead it's another one of those (potential spoiler) Super Sonic boss levels where you just have to tedious move across the screen without running out of rings).

I think a big problem with both Crisis City and the final boss was a lack of explanation. E.g., Crisis City's giant fire tornado didn't make sense at first, and getting rings seemed impossible on the last level (until you figure out that going slow makes it harder and it's better to just go fast and hope you catch them in the wake than go slow and miss them all without any following you anyway).

It's a good game though, and I think they have a lot of good stuff to build on. They just need to leave the annoying stuff out, which they keep insisting on keeping in the game for some reason, probably what put some people off of the Planet Wisp levels too (strange too, isn't Sonic Colours apparently just as good as generations?)

I thought colors was awesome, I have it on Wii (alone with secret rights and the knight one which are meh) but I'm just a sonic fanboy who likes all the sonic games and buy them regardless, lol.

I have to say though, Generations is BY FAR one of the best in the recent sonic games. I just wish the open world part of it was more like Adventure and Sonic 06.

All in all though, they did really well on both Classic and Modern stages. The two of them being in one game was AWESOME.
Wait, Generations has some sort of open world/free roaming? That's always fun.

I should probably get around to eventually getting it... eventually, some day... eventually! :P
It does, but its just 2D sidescrolling in it. There's no secrets to find really, unless you consider the minibosses secrets? But they're required anyways.
yeah it's a 2D hub world. it still pretty fun though, and you have to do some platforming to get to the missions.
The main problem with Planet Wisp, even though Colours is supposed to be pretty good (I haven't played it) is that they only give you one color per act and it gets overused and it's a bit confusing on act 1. They tried to cram as much use of the colors as they could into one level and that's why it put me off as much as it did. Thing is, they should have put a little of all the different colors or at least used a couple of others in the same stage, maybe with some more puzzle-like aspects.

Final Boss: That looks like a homing shot! No ♥♥♥♥... Be careful, Sonic! I'M TRYING!! It's a warping arm attack! HOW DO I DODGE THAT BULLCRAP!? *beep beep* WHERE ARE RINGS WHEN YOU NEED THEM!?

Seriously, I was so glad when that was finally over. I've replayed every boss level and rival battle in hard mode except for that one, with GOOD REASON.

Also, I disagree that the old games were about speed. I recently got Sonic 1 back out and played it and I had to slowly go through each stage to avoid losing rings so I would have 50 at the end to get to the bonus stages. I felt that the seemingly random walls that stopped you if you didn't jump over them were actually a good design choice generally. Most of them were placed just before an enemy or a pitfall. If that obstacle hadn't been there, you'd have probably run right into it and died or at least lost your rings.

Whoops I misread "generations" as "colours" and then rewrote "generations" myself! Silly me, asking a question I already knew the answer of (since I've finished this game)! Sorry guys!

I do like the Generations hub world on that note. Pity there's not much stuff to do - random enemies lying around (that can't kill you and instead only stun you) could make for good practice/muckabout fun.

So, what I meant to ask - does Colours have free roaming? (probably not?).
Now for me to screw my head on tighter so I stop saying strange things.
