PLEASE RE RUN THE CONFIGURATION TOOL

[hey rawdawg u owe $40]

I have had generations working on my computer before... now when i start it up it states the detected configuration does not match the current hardware please rerun the configuration tool... i have done so many times.... i have deleted the local game content and reinstalled... it still does not work please help ... !!!!!

i fixed the config tool but now its the game itself

If it says something about a config mismatch then delete the .cfg files in the sonic generations folder and start the config tool again.

i did that but it said error 0xc000007b and i have the latest directx,.net frame work, and redistribute

**IF when you try to run Sonic Generations you get a weird black box with a "Critical Error! the detected configuration does not does not match your current hardware. Please re-run the configuration tool" error message, I have a fix for you.**

Follow these steps and your game will run good as new as it did before it started messing up..er..or if it never ran before ._. *cough*

1) Run Sonic Generations from the Steam Library (just to have it cached as a recent activity even if the error pops up)

2) Delete the "GraphicsConfig.cfg" file found in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\sonic generations"

3) Look at the Nvidia (or whatever you video processor is) control panel and add Sonic Generations as a program to customize

4) Click "Restore" after you added it so that it would revert to the default settings

5) Return to the Steam Library and instead of clicking "Play Sonic Generations", click "Configure"

6) Click "Graphics Configuration" and look at the options

7) I noticed that all the quality settings was on "Low". Set both the Shadow Quality and Reflection Quality on "High"

8) Make the Configuration window full screen so you can click the "Save and Exit" button at the bottom

9) Run Sonic Generations

I'm not sure if steps 3-4 are required but, if you have Nvidia, I would definitely do them. I'm not sure how the steps would work under any other video processors control panel..sorry :( It should work though. If not, let me know and I will keep digging to try to find a fix under multiple situations.

It's a gem of a game and it would be a shame to not enjoy it. I've been trying to make this thing work for months. Seriously, MONTHS. Let me know if it fixed your problem :D:

Try to spread the word too if it does work because this problem is seriously popping up everywhere. I'd be glad if I fixed it lol

I figured it out at some point the cfg files weren't there at some point they showed up when I reinstalled

So I had to deal with this issue years ago and when I did, I saw the GraficsConifig.cfg file and dealt with it accordingly, but now that I'm trying to do this again, the GraficsConifig.cfg file is not even showing up! What am I supposed to do in this situation?

When you dont have any cfg files yet you have to use the config tool and select your resolution and such and click Save or Save & Exit afterwards.
The error message should have also been slightly different.

I have a fix that worked for me.

If you open your Graphics config file with notepad, you will see this:

Some of these variables may differ, because you have different settings. But what I found out, is that there is a dot in between the last 2 rows. Delete that dot and run Sonic Generations, that worked for me.

I used this method changing my \\.\DISPLAY2 to \\.\DISPLAY1 And it worked. Thank you
