I get this error when I open Sonic Generations... in Steam. Help?

Are you Launching the game from desktop?

I made a shortcut on desktop and launched, still same error.

You have to make sure Steam is turned on and you are launching it through that. You usually get this message when Steam is not switched on, Launch it in steam

Restart Steam
Update Steam + Windows
Verify Game Cache
Restart Computer

Ahh, I restarted steam and it worked. Surprisingly.

Verify Game Cache. Sort out your settings in the config tool. Disable any mods that could be causing this

I've attempted all of those, and Sonic Generations still won't run. I tried to verify game cache and it kept saying it failed.
