Switch port?
Should Sega make a Switch port of the game?

Eh, I don't know...Sonic Generations was a 20th anniversary game. No one usually remasters and re-releases anniversary games. It's kinda too late to think about porting this game now.

引用自 eeeeeeeeerrrrrr...
ofc theyd have to nerf the graphics or cap the fps to 30 if they port it
This game was made primarily for PS3 and 360. The Switch is more powerful than the PS3, they wouldn't need to nerf anything.

You also realize Generations was 30fps on PS3, right?

They'd still have to nerf the graphics and/or performance when the Switch is undocked. Or did you intentionally "forget" to make yourself seem smart?

And there would still be frame drops in some of the levels, especially because the Switch's slow memory

The Wii U was basically an HD Wii.

But Forces ran well on the Switch so unless the port is botchered it will run fine as well.

uh no...the WiiU was much stronger than the Wii, PS3, and slightly stronger than Xbox 360. too bad it released too late and Nintendo ruined it with the bad marketing.

The Wii U could easily handle it, it's just that, much like the N64 and PS3, the architecture was a nightmare to develop for. Only Nintendo themselves knew how the hardware worked and thus could produce some stunning looking games at 60FPS. I'm also sure that with the right people and the right engine, the Wii U could even run Rise of Lyric without any of the visual or gameplay bugs.
How is it a nightmare when it uses an IBM PowerPC processor and an ATi Radeon HD card much like the Wii and Xbox 360?

I'm pretty sure they were trolling the Switch for not being that powerful (despite the fact of how good Colors looked on the Wii).

the Switch runs even worse than the WiiU when undocked so yeah...

also Colors still had to run at 30fps and use an inferior engine

You didn't need to flood the thread...

Also the Switch can handle this game, docked or not (as long as the port isn't botchered like some other game).

Sonic Unleashed on the other hand would probably need some downscaling as it can finally run smoothly on the Xbox Series (despite being a X360 game).

Yeah, SEGA is weird when it comes to their legacy content - they're willing to keep the likes of Sonic 4, Sonic Adventure DX and the first two SEGA All Stars Racing games on Steam for modern Windows computers but aren't willing to port those games over to other systems for some strange reason. That's not even mentioning the complete absence of Sonic 3 & Knuckles on these other platforms.

Whereas they have no problem re-releasing Sonic 1 and 2 over and over again, which while I'm glad they do since it means more people get the chance to play the games that started it all, I do question why most of the other games in the series, regardless of overall quality, never see the light of day again. I mean, at least with the storybook games, I can somewhat understand considering their reliance on the Wii's motion controls.

It makes absolutely no sense to me - just because it wasn't as well received as they expected or wanted them to be doesn't mean they don't deserve a second chance with a newer audience, with Sonic Unleashed being a very good example of this. The recent attention that game's gotten in the past few years may cause second-hand disc copies to skyrocket in price.

Capcom is one of the best examples I can think of when it comes to companies preserving their legacy content for a new generation of gamers, hence why so many of their games, particularly RE4 and Okami, have seen so many ports and re-releases over the years, meaning it's no longer necessary to get PS2 copies just to play them. Most of the people that are willing to buy these games are those that never got the chance to experience them originally.

Long story short, games like Generations can definitely work on the Switch if SEGA take the time, care and effort to port the game to it as well as modern consoles, which isn't as big of a deal for the XBOX 360 version on a Series X due to backwards compatibility but the PS4/5 and Switch would need native ports to get working, which is certainly possible.

I would still say that Sonic 1&2 should get their mobile remaster on PC and consoles and not be stuck on mobile.

The storybook can still get an HD port with the joycon controls but those are spin-offs.

They still need to fix their issue with Sonic 3&K for once and for all.

Capcom is a good example but sadly Konami and Squarenix aren't following them.

And Sony kinda messed up by not making the PS4 and 5 not backward compatible.

As well as the PS3 store soon shutting down, which means the PS3 version of Sonic Unleashed will no longer be available digitally and won't even be playable on newer consoles like the PS4/5 just like all the many PS3 exclusive titles that aren't getting ports or remasters, whereas the 360 version and all its DLC will continue to receive support on newer systems, which is a shame considering the PS3 version has 60FPS support.

Same with Nintendo and their library of games that isn't from the NES or SNES. Whenever we do get N64, GameCube or Wii games from them, it's usually from barebones collections that are only available for a limited time and then disappear into the digital ether forever, especially considering the lack of Virtual Console and backwards compatibility.

the first version of the PS3 that was PS2 compatible was still very expensive (but funny thing is that you could play both versions of Unleashed on it).

As for Nintendo I still don't get the whole "limited digital release" thing (especially since they didn't even bother to put the other Fire Emblem games on the NES/SNES online).

I'm glad to see F-zero and Panel De Pon there but they should bring more game there.

The Switch is severely downclocked and many third party games usually get their fps cut by almost half when running undocked. That makes it almost as weak as the WiiU which would make a game like Generations have bad performance even if capped to 30fps.

Not to mention that certain aspects like 30 sec trial and time attack mode wouldn't be possible if playing the Switch in a place lacking internet.

Probably because those games are more popular among the Sonic fanbase to warrant re-releases for extra profit, while games like Unleashed weren't viewed as highly compared to Generations (although that contradicts why Colors wasn't ported to PC). I think Sega and/or Sonic Team is too afraid to take financial risks...or maybe they're a bunch of morons and lost a lot of the source code and assets lol. I won't really discuss emulation but that's also another viable option which can be done legally with the proper steps.

It's not off topic as I'm still talking about Sonic Generations.

Sonic Lost World runs on the same engine as Generations so it wouldn't get too much issues.

You can still have local time attack, with or without internet, it doesn't matter.

Sega aren't the one who can lose the source code of a game, you're saying it like only them could.

Also Unleashed and Colors are often requested (like Sonic 3&K on the Switch and Xbox One/Series and PS4/5).

They could even port Riders and Heroes as those already had a PC port.

I mean, they're even bundled in with the PAL exclusive Sonic PC Collection, which you can still get online for fairly cheap anyways. I'd say why not bring it over to Steam to make it even easier for us to play those titles? Especially seeing as the PS3 store is going down which means we lose the PSN digital version of Heroes (which is based on the PS2 version) in the near future.
Sonic2024 2021 年 4 月 3 日 上午 3:02
Sonic Generations was originally planned for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The Team released Sonic Colors since Wii can't handle sonic generations. So, I am pretty sure, switch can handle sonic generations at 60fps without much frame drops. But I thought a collection of boost games for modern hardware would have been better. Like Super Mario 3D All stars, Sonic Boost Trilogy! Which consists of Unleashed, colors and generations (With Unleashed having some graphical downgrade since it is a highly graphical game). We did not have a collection for a long time. So Instead of just porting one sonic game I think a collection is better. Switch is best for collection games since it is portable :)

It still baffles me how Sega decided to stop making PC ports since the second half of the 00's because they were still pretty good as a japanese company making PC games even after stopping making consoles.

Sure, we got Generarions, Lost World and Forces but compared to the ammount of PC port of Sonic games we got from the second half of the 90's to 2007 (with Mega Collection Plus, their last major Sonic game on PC, which was just a compilation of the Genesis game with some SMS/GG ones).

And I agree that they should focus on bringing their game back to current gen consoles and PC. The mobile port could become uncompatible with the newer IoS/Android tomorrow or they can pull out Sonic 3&K from Steam anytime.

Honestly, I would love for the riders series to return. If you go and look at sonic twitter, they have been making references to riders for quite a while. Hope we get another riders game. The racing in those games were so unique and awesome, awesome until free riders screwed everything up.

Heck, even back when they were a console manufacturer, they even had a few PC ports of their games. We saw PC ports of Sonic 3 & Knuckles as part of the Sonic & Knuckles Collection with altered music and using the prototype soundtrack instead of the MJ compositions, a port of Sonic 3D Flickies' Island based on the Saturn version, as well as ports of Sonic CD and Sonic R which the Sonic Gems Collection ports are based on, all for Windows 95 computers back in the day.

Free Riders may have killed the series but at least people still remembered it.

I wonder why they didn't port Zero Gravity to PC nor include the Babylons in Team Sonic Racing.

Yeah, they could even put the prototype musics for an eventual mobile remaster.
I seriously doubt they'd port 3D Blast as we already got the Genesis version (with the Director's cut as a mod) but this would be nice to experience both versions.
I wouldn't even be mad if they re-released Sonic R to Steam just for the meme and for the mods.
