you mean a fake remaster with DLC vs the exact same game in a bundle with several games ?
lol , the coping for that re-release scam is unreal .
Compared to the remaster which has more content/features/runs better that make the old version obsolete by basically all objective measures?
But I am the one coping......
But Gens was 30€ on Steam on release and dropped down to 5€ usually (even as low as 1€!). I don't think the new version offer 10-120 times more, at least on PC. Glad it's there but Segas pricing has been kinda high these past few years.
And that is before talking about stuff like multiple save files proper and the Shadow content (which feels a bit dismissive to write off because that is part of the package)
Sure there is mods, but given how fast the community has been with mods at this point, give it a few years and it will catch up
I'm just a bit salty that the new version is so expensive, has no discount for existing owners and that the quality of the lighting and graphics of Sonic games just got worse and worse since Unleashed, including the Shadow content from what I saw.
I'll kinda agree, SEGA could have cut us some slack if we already owned the original, though it is debatable if they should have, considering that Shadows campaign has remained the focus of the marketing and the selling point of this remaster, which is content that no one has otherwise, so there is points on both sides on that debate
As for graphics.......I know what I am about to say may upset Sonic Twt, but I still believe it, you put both Gens and Unleashed in neutral levels, I can't particularly tell them apart (the only way I can is through very specific Sonic animations)
That is not to say I think HE1 games don't hold up, I just think Unleashed graphics gets gassed up because it gets inflated with stuff like the CGI (because that is really good)
As for is it worse? I mean I don't think so, but that is subjective I guess
Gens and Unleashed can look very similar, with mods they look basically identical.
Gens had to tone down some effects like directional lighting but makes up for it in high fps and clarity.
Forces and Frontiers just look pretty flat. Physically based rendering now no dynamic lighting, no global illumination, everything just looks a bit flat and more plasticy due to lack of proper lighting and the performance in Frontiers is pretty bad anyway.
Segas lost it's technical edge and greatly reduced the budgets of Sonic games and it shows but not in number of sales it seems.
Forces and especially Frontiers, having that bombastic artstyle would not fit either story style (we can argue the effectiveness of Forces, but it is hard to deny they were setting up something gritty and dark), and Frontiers is more somber and down-to-earth compared to the wacky settings of the mid 2000/2010s games
So what you call flat, I argue is missing the point of what both styles are going for, and just labeling them as one thing is just criticizing because it is not this other thing that you DO like
Anyway, sorry for going off-topic for so long. I don't think this is gonna lead anywhere.
