1.) SEGA's less than perfect track record with remasters as of late, I don't need to go into details as people have already said what needs to be said about Origins & Colors Ultimate, but the fact remains that they've left a sour taste in our mouths and I'm not exactly confident that a Generations Remake is gonna be when SEGA actually takes a remaster seriously and lets it cook in the oven all the way before shipping it out
2.) Even if this remaster ends up being the greatest game in the franchise that blows the original SG out of the water entirely, or ends up being a complete dumpster fire, SEGA will most likely delist the original game just as they did with Origins to leave people no option but the newer game. This kinda sucks for the obvious reason that if they remaster ends up being inferior to the original, then consumers will just be bottlenecked into purchasing an inferior product because SEGA will never swallow their pride and put the original back up for sale. It also sucks as Sonic Generations has just about the most extensive modding community out of all Sonic games, and if this game gets delisted it will cut off any new players from being able to experience all the cool mods made by fans over the years.
I don't want to come off as overly cynical or just some snarky contrarian, I want this game to do the original justice and not tarnish the reputation of one of Sonic's best outings. But because of (mainly issue 2) what I've explained above, I'm just not giddy with anticipation for an SG remaster, even if it is gonna have Shadow in it (somehow).
TL;DR tbh no, SEGA burned us twice already with "remasters" and even if it's good it'll still cut off the modding community from new members forever.
That makes no sense?
Quality of Colors Ultimate aside, Colors was a game that was in need of a remaster, as it was not available on PC outside of emulating the Wii version.
Generations doesn't have this problem, and already looks quite good on PC. Why is it receiving a remaster instead of, say, Unleashed, which is actually in need of one since it lacks a PC port at all?
(The answer is probably opportunity cost, of course, since Unleashed was such a high budget release at the time and would likely require a lot of effort to properly remaster... but that's besides the point)
Yeah sure, we get new levels for Shadow, but I'm tired of another Sonic game where I have to play Green Hill zone for the hundred time again.
Edit: Sonic 06 and the sonic storybook games need a well done and bugfree remake so badly too. It's just sad that these games are impossible to play these days.
Here ya go.
Because it's not just a remake now. If it was just a Generations remake, then yeah, people would remain mad. The fact that we are getting Shadow story means it's more than a remake. There is no irony here.
This is a concern I have too. If the Shadow storyline is short, then it's just Sega selling DLC in the package of a full priced re-release.
