Xbox 360 Controller is refusing to work

ive tried for a hour now. and still doesnt work. in the config tool i switch in to the xbox 360 controller and it doesnt save. it does save if input my keys. but it doesnt save when i switch it to my remote. is there anyway to fix this? ive never had this issue before

I've just had this exact same issue after the first time booting up the game.

Click on the Guide in there and there's a section talking about setting up the controller. I personally with an Xbox 1 Controller, had 0 issues. Picked it up and I didn't have to do any keymapping. Hope this helps.

im haveing the problem too and there NOTHING in the guide that says "360 controller not working"

i never posted what fixed my problem. but from what i can remember you unplug the remote in the controller editor or what ever its called. that fixed it for me. not sure if it will work for anyone else

i dont think thats the case. i think its a problem with the game. i got it working i think, by re plugging the remote in the controller config

Go to Big Picture mode, and in Controller Settings, select Xbox (and also maybe generic if you want) gamepad configuration and then exit. You don't need BPM running just that option has to be chosen in order for this and other Sonic games to recognize your Xbox controller.

Sadly, you can't update the firmware anymore as Microsoft has discontinued support for it for like a decade now. If you had an Xbox One or Series controller, you could do so through the Xbox Accessories app via the Windows store.
