espio challenge is absolutely awful...
up to this point ive had fairly little difficulty getting S ranks on every act and challenge, but best i can do with this incredibly stupid and infuriating challenge is a D. i tried practiceing the rope swing over and over and over and i cant find the animation or frame your supposed to let go on, when i did beat the challenge its because i glitched though the spike ur supposed to go over on the last rope swing. cant beleive someone gave the ok to include that challenge in the game. load of bs...

Yeah, the Espio challenge is definitely an annoyance. I usually try to gain speed by chaining rope swings, then doing the final jump, but even that usually fails.

ya, i noticed that on that part between the last checkpoint and the last wall u gotta swing over before goal, first few jumps went ok but took me forever to get over that wall. even then it wasnt because i did it correctly it was the glitch gods feeling sorry for me

I've seen many successful attempts at YouTube, with people playing on PS3 or X360 (noticed that because of the long level loadings), but I can't even swing correctly on that ropes. This challenge must have some bug or glitch, it's nearly impossible.

sorry to necropost, but i’m here from google because i’m LOSING MY MIND. I CANT CLEAR THE FINAL WALL. i don’t know if they messed something up in the port or if it’s a skill issue but MY LORD this is unfair

I found out when trying to use the directional pad instead of the analog stick on the controller, this way Espio plays Sonic with more momentum, allowing the last wall to be overcome. I don't know how to do it using the keyboard, but I managed to pass with an S Rank.

THANKS! Weirdly enough, this worked for me. Using the D-pad (in my case, on and Xbox One controller) inexplicably makes Sonic swing and let go a lot faster and farther - somes times, even too much. But it worked to finally finish this level (got an A, but could easily get an S).

This challenge and this whole mechanic is absolutely terrible and pretty much unplayable without relying on weird glitches, definitely a buggy mess that managed to get into the final game. I wonder if (and how) they'll fix it on the new remaster.
This actually made me stop playing Generations for like 4 months. Infuriating.
it's not that bad. as well every charckter challange is bad in generations. vetor challange for modern sonic is still the worst and imo espio isn't that bad. im personally think that this is one of the best.

Vector music note challenge I think is exaggerated. Trick is to not waste time waiting for the note to get close to the end of their path. Homing attack aggressively and early. That saves a lot of time, and you can beat the challenge with an S rank pretty easily.

Espio Classic is much more annoying. Just for that final jump you have to do, and if you fail to do it fast enough, you miss the S rank and have to redo everything.

Can't say i relate there, you must have gotten a really lucky run cause i spent the better part of an hour trying to get the last jump with espio but the vector challenge only took a couple attempts for me to S rank, wish we had our luck in those challenges switched lol
RunItGodzira! Firstly: I respect your nickname (finally someone on this platform knows Godzilla). and secondly: I know, man, maybe I was lucky, but it seems to me that the PC version has this challenge much worse (if that makes sense). I think so because when I was beating this challenge on the switch (with joycon drift in addition), I managed to complete it the first time.

Couple others on this thread mentioned it being easier using d-pads so maybe the controller that you use makes a night and day difference. i used a wired xbox 360 controller and just could not get the momentum required with it. Maybe ill experiment with other controllers next time i play. And pleased to meet you too fellow goji enjoyer
I'm stuck on this challenge in the SXSG version. I really to unlock What I'm Made Of but this challenge is fricking annoying. I'm surprised they didn't remove it.

So, apparently you unlock What I'm Made Of with Red Rings. NVM.
