Anyone know how to get this to run on Windows 11? I've downloaded tried opening with admin/as windows 7 and everything - still nothing.

Tried again this morning and it's loaded up no issues. Not sure whats going on. I have seen discussions on other games that have the exact same issue. Just keep trying it.

Stopped working again for me too. There was a Java update, not sure if it's related.

Hi all, I have the 'updating executable' error as well, really annoying. I have tried most of the suggested solutions that I have seen on the web. Any suggestions? Otherwise, I will live in hope like that it resolves itself randomly like for some of you

I uninstalled the latest windows update, then it ran again. So I won't be updating again...

It's working now! Instead of Steam saying "updating executable", it was installing something through Microsoft Direct X.

What worked for me. Revert to an earlier version in windows updates, then don't allow updates. That worked for me. FM2012 is more important to me than tiny adjustments of my system which works just fine.

My version is 23H2 and OS-version 22631.4317
Before reverting I would get an error message during startup that FM would close. It does not happen after revert.

anyone had any joy? tried all sorts of fixs from online, no luck. tried to play fm 13 16 and 2023 but its not the same. FM12 is the only version i can play and enjoy :(

It stopped working yesterday (Windows 10) kept saying updating executable. I wanted to see if the editor worked (Under tools in steam) which I have no idea how to use but anyway. It said installing directX and then loaded the editor. I then tried FM12 and it loaded back up! I also yesterday installed the directx for the game which is 9 I believe. That can be found in the FM folder in steam! Not sure if that actually did anything tho!

Fm11 and fm13 work just fine for me so it’s a little confusing

I just found my old savegames and I wanted to try the game again after 12 years, but I'm having the same issue with the Updating Executable message, the game won't start no matter what. I tried installing the editor, and even installing the DirectX from the subfolder in the FM12 main folder, nothing seems to work. Some help would be really appreciated here!

I installed the DX from the sub folder and then I ran FM12 editor and it said installing DX or something then exited FM Editor and launched FM12 and it loaded but took a bit longer than normal! This happened on both my Windows 10 PC and my Windows 11 laptop
