Would be nice! I'll take fixes for this one first though.

The first Space Channel 5 was only released for the Dreamcast and the Playstation 2, so that's why it's not here.

What kind of reason is that? You could say same thing about Part 2 until they made PC version in 2011 - 9 years later from original release - with name Dreamcast collection saying it contains Dreamcast games.

I did watch one gameplay video played with emulator and I would guess first reason why that hasn't gotten re-release is that games background is actually highly compressed video instead of actual 3D elements not only making it look really awful on modern displays and devices but also limits aspect ratio to 4:3 which isn't good when most users have 16:9 or 16:10 displays.

Another reason may be they used almost exactly the same gameplay elements and music with something like animations and voice acting being much worse.

If only Sega, Neo Geo etc would release a whole collection of games rather than the 'odd one' like this or Metal Slug '3'.

I'd even pay a premium for it and achievement support..

Metal Slug 3 was also really bad compared to emulated version and only worth if wanted easy way to play with friends. Also got warning that if someone wants unlimited credits they would get VAC banned - on a single player game.
Metal Slug was also pretty odd as I remember they did release collection on all consoles and seperate version on PC as well. Metal Slug 3 seems to be mobile version which they then simply decided to re-re-release on Steam as well. Things get even weirder as they did have DRM-Free, OS X and Linux versions on Humble, but now they can't be bought anywhere.

As for why companies (includes Sony and Nintendo with their oldies as well) won't release many old titles at once is simply lisencing issues. It's actually really hard to release anything other than first party titles without issues. This game was/is part of collection though.

I would absolutley buy part 1 if it came to steam. I find the timing on the PS2 and emulators to be so broken to the point of unplayability, so bringing it to PC and fixing some of its issues would be a godsend for someone who's never truly gotten to play it.

I agree! I totally miss part 1. I've been dying to play it again for so long. Would be nice if they added. I'd buy right away.

In the unlikely event Sega ever bring SC5 to PC then I hope they at least base on it on the Dreamcast original, not the inferior PS2 port. That said, the specific nature of what made the PS2 version look inferior could actually work to its benefit if given an HD makeover for PC.

Space Channel 5 Part 1 is a japan and Dreamcast only
Only Part 2 actually got a translation and much more famous than the previous title.

A translation and a port for Part 1 it doesn't seems too good for Sega's side.

Commenting in here just got to a level of youtube comments...

In any way you people still forgot one main issue of first part: backgrounds are STILL low quality pre-rendered videos which they most likely won't be able to redo so you would be stuck with 480p resolution with 4:3 aspect ratio and desynced characters.

Sega being Sega, it could be good or bad. But just from my initial impressions, the PC version is easily the best version of the game, at least unless you have a CRT TV (and even then, it probably still is).
I would love to see Part 1 so I could retire my PS2 collection.

Watch the credits newfaq it's a Japanese game lol.

I love how obnoxious people can be even when they're wrong. The first SC5 did come out on PS2 in America, but it wasn't a stand alone release, it was called "Space Channel 5 Special Edition," a 2-disc set with both games in one package. I have it sitting right next to me.

Yeah, but they released English versions of it both on Dreamcast and PS2. No one is claiming it wasn't made by the Japanese, merely that you're wrong that it was never released in English. You've had multiple people who actually own both versions tell you this, but you still can't admit you were mistaken. But hey, if you don't want to believe us, how about Wikipedia?[en.wikipedia.org]

It was released in North America on November 18, 2003 as part of a sole package called Space Channel 5 Special Edition that contained both Space Channel 5 and Space Channel 5: Part 2.

You may be thinking of Part 2 and the Dreamcast, which never did get an English version of the game. The first time it was released in English was on the PS2 as part of the special edition that had both games.

Wha-where is Part 1?

That is like releasing Sonic 2 on steam skipping on Sonic... y they do this to us?
