As Sea Kings, I usually Ransom for the Tribute, especially early in the game.
I usually absorb the warriors if I have a few units that are hurting, or if the gold is pitiful (even 1% replenishment is solid enough, especially compared to like 23g on a later turn). Early on the gold tends to be more useful in general though.
And as Zsrai said, executing affects relationships with other factions aside from the faction whose men you killed: it can be an easy way to boost relations with your vassals and other factions who don't like the faction whose men you are executing.
