am i missing something in the battle UI ?
Hi, having played the warhammer series as well as rome 2, i'm having a hard time with this one while in battle. i have a hard time seeing if one of my unit is winning an engagement, also i have a hard time reading my unit type since its the same "banner" for say infantry and cavalry, even though in warhammer you can clearly see if your unit type is spearmens or swordsmen... is there an option i missed to make the battles more "readable" ?

In my battles, right under the faction icon, I see small pictures of spears, swords, axes, horses and so on.

I think there's a way to turn these on or off, or make them toggleable. I remember stumbling across it while fiddling with some of the battle elements. There is a menu that pops up on the right side of the screen, with various items, some of them with padlocks next to them to indicate that they are "locked" on, i.e. always showing.

I'm not explaining this well at all, so hopefully someone else can be more precise, but the answer is yes, you can change things to make the units a bit more distinct.

With regard to identifying whether your unit is winning, I think the only way to check that is to mouse over it and see for yourself.

This is what the other posters are referring to:

I quickly went over some of my screenshots to see if I had any that showed the menu, and added some quick visual markers to them. I suggest you play around with this menu to find the best setup for you.

Those toggled with lock icon will always be visible, and those without a lock icon will only toggle when you press the space bar.

Personally I leave it all toggled on, as the layout of the various icons is not dynamic. This means that any icons turned off will create odd gaps. Much easier to ignore a solid information brick than try to peer through the gaps of a reduced information brick. However, that's just personal preference.

In addition to what everyone else has already said, there is also an option for "combat indicators" that will let you see at a glance what chances a unit has versus an enemy. This option is inside the settings for battles, which you can access either from the main menu, or by hitting Esc key during gameplay.

Keep in mind that this setting will be hardlocked to disabled if you're playing on Legendary difficulty.
