I have tried to write a short explanation of the most relevant info in the family window. I put some numbers in a screenshot to show what is what. Hopefully this will clarify things for you. Note that this is from a campaign around turn 230, so yours probably isn't this detailed. I thought it would be useful though, as it shows pretty much everything that you might encounter. Best of luck!

P.S. I hope you're not colour blind, as that might make it rather unhelpful. :sad_lif:

Red - Character related info
  1. Character button - press this to go to the character view.
  2. Age & assassination - the number shows the character's age. Clicking the button attempts to assassinate the character.
  3. Influence - The number shows the character's level of influence. Clicking the button will attempts to lower the character's influence.
  4. Loyalty - The number shows how loyal a character is to your faction (leader). If a character has 0 loyalty at the end of a turn, he will rebel the next turn. This will start a civil war.
  5. Command - The number shows the character's command stat. This value is relevant to battles.
  6. Governance - The number shows the character's governance stat. This value is relevant to governors.
  7. Zeal - The number shows the character's zeal. The zeal value affects battles and province happiness.
  8. Estates - The number shows how many estates this character has. Go to the estates window to see which estates the character has.
  9. Spouse - This area shows who this character is married to (either male or female).
  10. Divorce - this button causes your characters to divorce. Note that, however awful a spouse seems, I have never seen a character be happy about divorce (lowering loyalty).

Green - Faction related info:
  1. Offices - You have three offices in ToB. Each office can only be held by 1 person at a time. The office will give additional loyalty, influence and command / governance / zeal. Removing someone from office will make them less happy, so choose carefully.
  2. Marriage - This icon shows a female character is eligible to be married. By clicking this button you can marry her to a general or governors who is not part of your family. Marrying them off to another faction is done via the diplomacy window.
  3. Exported - Females married of to another faction will travel to that faction. They are still shown in your family tree. When both husband and wife have a little flag-icon it means they are in another faction. The blue crown indicates they are married to that faction's king or heir.
  4. Imported - If you marry one of your male relatives to a female from another faction, the woman joins your faction. If only the woman has a little flag-icon it means they are in your own faction.
  5. Marriage - This icon shows a male character is eligible for marriage. You can either click this icon to prompt a random marriage proposal. Or try to find a suitable wife through the diplomacy window.
  6. Dead - If a character's picture is grey it means they are dead. As this example shows, not all children make it to adulthood. There is a filter option to only show character that are alive in top right.

Yellow - Character overview:
  1. Generals - This tab shows and overview of all your generals.
  2. Governors - This tab shows and overview of all your governors.
  3. Statesmen - This tab shows which male characters have not been given a role.
  4. Family Members - This tab shows all the characters in your family (so those listed in the family tree). This is a very useless tab as it is just too chaotic, especially once you reach the 3rd or 4th generation.
