Oh it's a lot better than Troy in the tactical scope (ie: the battlefield), there's no comparison. To be fair to CA, a lot of that is due to the historical setting of Thrones offering things like disciplined infantry formations and cavalry, but some of it is because a lot of effort has clearly been put into the Thrones battlefield.

That said, I think a lot of people would consider Fall of the Samurai the best Saga game.

No kidding, considering you don't own Thrones.

Actually, according to your profile you don't have *any TW titles at all*, save maybe Troy, because that's on Epic and not Steam.

When your attempt at comedy turns into a self own funnier than whatever you were going for.

That's what I'm saying. All the other TWs past Med 2 (and even that if you don't have one of the early disc runs) are Steam, so the only TW you could be doing would be Troy, MTW on disc, STW on disc, RTW on disc, and Med 2 on disc.

My point being, if you haven't done TW since 2006, then your assessment about Troy being better than Thrones or whatever is a little ridiculous.

I like the setting of ToB better, but I find the games pretty comparable.

That is a huge reason for why I didn't get Troy, even for no charge during the first 24 hours. It's also why you won't see me playing TW3K.

Tbh, it's pretty hard to even classify Troy, 3K and the WHs as actual TW games, if you're coming at it from the original TW formula and as an original fan.

At the same time, it's also why I like Thrones of Britannia.

It's ironic that Thrones caught so much hate, because as videos like the two that I linked demonstrate, Thrones is actually the last, true TW we've seen to date.

Even the vid creator apparently has no experience with Thrones. He had issues with Rome 2, then abandoned TW altogether, until jumping back in with 3K and Troy. He seems to think everything after Shogun 2 is along an identical, faulty trajectory.

Most of the design rationale he praises regards Shogun 2 is alive in Thrones, while the faults he hones in on from Rome 2, WH, 3K and Troy are absent, but he apparently has no idea. The weird hate train for Thrones has given so many people the idea that it sucks, to the point many people simply skipped it, like this vid creator Volund: he goes from Rome 2 in 2014, to 3K in 2019, then to Troy.

He even specifically says he thought he'd give TW another chance because of the great reviews 3K was getting. There's way too many people blowing sunshine up Troy and 3K's asses, while talking about how "dumbed down" Thrones was, or how they skipped it. Talk about some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Yep, it didn't give me the impression he'd played TOB, but should certainly consider it.

Thrones of Britannia is my favourite. I haven´t tested Troy yet (but I have the game in the Epic games library).

I agree

ToB is an underrated gem. I love the quite high historical authenticity, the much more realistic recruitment and food system (it's not like fighting endless battles in Attila because the Sassanids can field another several fullstacks almost instantly).

This is a very smart game for more demanding players. I would like to see a DLC campaign. Already started a discussion on this forum.

Haven't played Troy yet, but i'm not interested either in some Bronze age Age of Mythology like game to be honest.

ToB is underrated that is for sure , battles are good , they look like real Total War , the games after ToB are just fantasy and arcade battles

This game was here to test a new campain mechanics features. (The fact than the lands were inter-connected and important to manage your army)

That's a shame than they didn't keep the battle part. Who was way better than in more recent title.

i'm happy to see than thoses features were integrated to the core base of total war games. But i would have love than they didn't trash the rest.

Got some assumptions built into whatever point you were trying to make here.

First off CA doesn't make games to test mechanics. They may change them if for no other reason to adjust them to the setting. But no one in the business of making money from making games does it just to test something. Get real.

And your last remark about "trashing" the rest fails to mention just WTF you're referring to.

If you want to pontificate about TOB how about starting your own thread, not like this place is busy. And while you're about it, how about this time providing details.
