The Anarchy and the rebellion of Henry II's kids would probably work better in Thrones of Britannia since they're closer to the tech level of ToB than the War of the Roses is.
That would probably work quit well, then again there are also the earlier wars between the saxon kingdoms themselves which probable would need little modding as far as units where concerned,.With perhaps the exception of the romo-british of which some would have late roman type battle gear. Talking of which if some mechanism could be found for a general to declare himself king the actual saxon invation could be recreated, I would realy like to play as Aella and found the kingdom of the SouthSaxons my home kingdom.
Are there any good historical novels about this period? I prefer a series similar to Sharon Kay Penman, or Anthony Everitt.
Bernard Cornwell, The last Kingdom serie. Matthew Harffy, The Bernicia Chronicles. M.J.Porter, Cronicles of the English, Earls of Mercia, Gods and Kings. These take you through the warring Saxon kingdoms, the forming of the English nation and up to the Dannish occupation under Swen forkbeard and his sons, Cnut the great and Harald harefoot. All three authers have thier own websites where you can find book Lists and descriptions. The last kingdom books have been made into a tv series but I would recomend Reading the book before watching the tv series as the books are far beter and more emersive. I would also recomend Helen Hollick’s book Harold the king which tells the biography of Harold Godwinson the last Saxon king of England, she also has her own website. That should give you enough to be getting on with enjoy.
Saw your in Norway. if your ever in Washington State USA there is a city called Poulsbo where I grew up thats nicknamed Little Norway. A lot of immigrants of Scandanavian decent settled in Washington State during the early 1900's, King Olav visited there once way back in the 70's and the current King and Queen have visited as well. Thanks again-Tusen takk!
Unfortunately it happened in England, which means people who don't like being restricted to the British Isles would get annoyed.
Well you are right in that there are other settings that also deserve the saga treatment, but I also agree that the war of the roses would also make a great focus game. That it happens in England should not really make much difference as long as it is a well made game. The same would also apply to other games in other locations and times, if its an interesting time/location that is well presented then it deserves a chance.
I get your point. It will be interesting to see where the Saga series goes. It's just a personal preference. I like all the intrigue and infighting that was involved with the war of the Roses, and some of the battle were very interesting from a tactical standpoint, although I don't know how that could be recreated in an open Total War game.
If I were to think of another region that would interest me in the same way with a different region I would probably go with the Italian Habsburg–Valois Wars.
