Is it cheese?
... to let a king with severely low Influence die in battle so a high influence heir can takeover?

I did it and it feels a bit icky. But there seemed to be no other way to continue the game.

After doing it my loyalty problems seem gone (so far), every noble now has a loyalty of 10, I've never seen that before. I'm sure there are downsides in the mail that I just don't see yet.

I remember sending problematic characters into hopeless battles to get rid of them in Rome 2 so you're not the only one haha.

It's a singleplayer game so you can cheese as much as you can tolerate.

How far into the game are you? Holding feasts is a good way of getting influence but you need the money of course.
I just finished this playthrough as Alt Clut. I love that faction for its cavalry I'm in love with and it's challenging start.

I think I'm going to go again as Mercia or the Gaelic Irish and check out their cavs.

It was a weird playthrough. When the Normans arrived they were sucking up the Anglo Saxon (formerly Wessaxe) territories like mad but the AS faction seemed to ignore it and let them take them while fighting me tooth and nail.

I had a severe money and food crisis late game supporting too many 20-stacks trying to hold off Anglo Saxons, finish off the Danes and protect my hold on Northern Ireland from the Irish Vikings.

I reluctantly made peace with Anglo Saxons so I could finish off the Normans, it blew my mind when my BFFs Cicern waged war on me, I didn't know your vassal could just wage war on you. I was totally unprepared for their attack right into my empires soft under-belly at Guvan.

I had to fight Cicern like early-game with minimal new stacks. It was a fun challenge. But I don't understand their change of heart, perhaps a new king took over.

After serving CIcern some key defeats and finishing off the Normans I achieved an Ultimate VIctory with a rating for my empire as "Destitute"... that was hilarious but true. I had been so wealther earlier in the game, I thought I'd stomp the map in short order.

After the UV I just made peace with my enemies, re-vassalizing Cicern and just peace with Irish Vikings after taking a huge chunk of their holdings in Ireland. I called it a game ... destitute though it was.

I look forward to another play-through with a bit more wisdom about post-patch play.

Nah, I get soo many generals instead of goveners that it's cheaper to raise em up and charge em at some towns wall then hire and assasinate them cause the game limits you to some random new person. Plus, I send em to take some undefended village just to pillage some money then take and dismantle...cause why not, no guards!
